Hi guys,

Once I'm done with all this current nonsense I'll slowly work down my list upgrades as and when I can afford them. I'm thinking that it may time for new brakes, just to be safe. I have no idea how old these are and although they passed the MOT I'd rather be safe than sorry. So, are there any "better than standard" brakes that work well? I've seen some drilled and slotted disks around, anyone have any experience with these? Can't have too much ability to stop, I say.

Will.

waste of money Wayne and can attract debris as well.

just get the best standard kit and make sure it's all in a good serviceable condition.

I got new discs and greenstuff pads from EBC a couple of years ago.

They are still going strong - not half done after 55K miles.

LR standard pads lasted around 20 to 25K - I had 2 sets of them and new discs at 48K - dealer said that was normal. No way Jose!

Better braking, less dust, more miles - get yourself a set of EBC kit.

Singvogel.

Have you measured your discs and pads? Do your brakes actually need any work doing on them?
Have you changed the brake fluid in the last two years? If not then doing that might be more beneficial.

Very true, I have no idea when it was last changed so I would think that would be the first thing to do. I'll probably do all the other fluids too (already done oil and coolant.)

ONLY get EBC pads if they are the latest ceramic compounds. I had a few sets of "iffy" pads from them a while back. After less than 1000 miles, the friction material had completely detached itself from the backing plate. This happened with the replacement set they sent too...

I have since used the ceramic compound pads, and they are a whole let better :)

My experience with ebc green stuff pads is v poor they just don't stop my D2 the ****ed out originals worked better!

I’ve put EBC Greenstuff pads on my 2006 FL V6 with 79,000 km (49,000 miles) on the clock. After 20,000 km (12,500 miles) the brake pads were completely worn out. Almost no friction material left. As the brake discs were also in a poor condition, I have replaced pads (EBC) and discs (still original) with TRW standard pads and discs (not slotted or drilled, nor ceramic). The braking improved a lot. I always thought my FL brake pedal was too hard, I had to press hard to make a stop. Now the braking effort I have to do is similar to my Audi A6.
I can’t explain why there was so much improvement. When I purchased the car (24,000 km – 15,000 miles) the braking pedal was already hard if compared to my A6. I thought it was a characteristic of the car. I would not say the TRW discs and pads are an upgrade for the braking system, but I am very pleased with the results.:)
In my experience, the EBC Greenstuff pads worked just like the OEM, but lasted much less (less than 20,000 km as opposed to 50,000 km for the OEM). I am not going to buy them again. I still have an EBC Redstuff pad set to put on my A6. Fingers crossed they will perform better.
