Rough Idle, vibrating on Td4

Hi there...

Have noticed recently that the idle on the td4 is quite lumpy and can feel a lot more of a vibration when the engine is running on idle. Feel it through the seat, steering wheel, pedals.

Engine sounds a tad rough and when I start to rev it you can hear it as if its missing a cylinder but not quite... and doesnt rev up that smooth, nor does it feel or sound that great when the revs dropping to idle too.

Recently been serviced about 1500 miles ago by 4x4 specialist. I do also notice (possibly unrelated, lots of oil vapour on the front of the air intake assembley and the large bore rubber hose at the front left of the engine bay. Im guessing that is a split hose or jubillee clips not tight enough (although have tightened them yesterday)

Any thoughts....

After searching on here im thinking duff/sticky/failing injector?

If so, seen mention of a leak off test? How is this done...can I do it? Idiots guide please? Ta.

most likely a fouled injector, try some cleaner in the tank, this sometimes works

Its quite easy but you need to cut a hole in the Engine Management outer box to route the wires through and also replace 3 pins in the ECU connectors, it took me 30 minutes to do.

Just got the sensor harness from the local landy garage, but they would not give me the bulletin to do the job with. Anyone got the procedure?

went to another garage who told me to go on to lr site GTR. All sorts of info there including the aforementioned bulletin.

now to fit...

Can you tell me how to unclip the plug from the fuel pressure sensor please. I have had a look at it and cant decide how to do it. From the top, it looks like there is a little bit of plastic that needs pushing down before the plug can be pulled horizontally. Any ideas?

The bit that needs squeezing together is about in the middle (ish) of the plug. It can be very tight so you may be better off using some long nose pliers to grip the plug and squeeze it together so it will release and pull off

Some of it's free, some of you have to pay for. It's bloody slow to say the least. Well it was when I had a go on it. If you go for the pay option, you pay for 24h, 1 week or 1 month. Or something like that. I would suggest you register and see what you think first. Hopefully it will be betterer than wen I last tried it.

Make sure you have the rave disk cd first. thats good and free too.

I have the same issue with my 55 td4, however, I just pulled the fuel rail sensor and cleaned with cotton buds and the problem cleared for months.

however, the rough idle has returned and whilst cleaning the fuel rail sensor I have noticed that the rubber gromit/seal inside has split.

Does anybody know if this rubber can be replaced or should I just go for the overlay kit ?

I've had the same probs with my td4 (not starting, rough idle when it does start until warmed up)
I've tried putting a bottle of Redex in with a full tank of diesel and after a few miles it feels like a different car!! And it started this morning first time.
£5 from the garage.

Cheers - I think people still look through these older posts for reference though? That's how I found it.

anyway the Redex fix hasn't lasted long..... my TD4 Freebie is back to starting poorly with a nice puff of smoke and lumpy idle....... any suggestions welcome!!
