Replacing diesel filter FL2

Greetings.
I am about to service my FL2 and have been told that replacing the fuel filter is not an easy job. Problems with bleeding the system I am told. Would appeciate any help and information. Thanks.

How do yiu bleed fuel circuit after replacing fuel filter , under the bonet
It is very difficult to fill again the circuit with fuel, car won't start.

you have to have a seperate hose with a palm pump to prime the filter after fitting

You need something like ;

UNIVERSAL 8MM FUEL DIESEL HAND PUMP PRIMER BULB PEUGEOT CITROEN CARGO 080703 | eBay

Then you need a couple of pipes to connect it to the fuel pipe into the fuel filter (front left) and to the fuel filter itself.

do you fit the priming bulb in line before filter or just use it seperatly with a couple of hoses to fill the filter and then conect the engine side pipe to the filter. so it fills filter with fuel and then connect original pipe,

Is it not a self bleed system? I was hoping it was as I have this job to do this weekend

Doesnt matter if you pump it into the filter or suck it through the filter to be honest. It just needs the filter full and the fuel lines primed.

This is because it wont self prime as there isnt a traditional fuel pump in the tank, just a sender.

Definately wont start if you just change the filter.

It will start eventually, but you will flatten the battery before it starts.

The pump only draws fuel when the engine is cranking.

What I do, personally, is fill the filter with a diesel conditioner (approx 500ml) through a small funnel and into the filter. This is enough to get the engine up and running, and not cut out. You need to have it running for a while though, as until it has fully filled itself back up, it sometimes takes a few seconds longer cranking to fire up

For the price of a bulb pump and a bit of rubber hose you can do it nicely

Although you are correct , if you can get it running off the contents of a freshly filled fuel filter , it should self bleed before it cuts out. Hopefully

freelander 1 should self bleed (doesn't help you with a f2, but just for the record)

FR2 should not be cranked excessively trying to draw fuel through the filter ! best way to shorten the life of the HP pump !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It must be bled before starting . Hand primer should always be used to bleed.

Yep. The Diesel is the lubricant for the pump

It does self bleed before cutting out. I have replaced enough of them
