Any reason I should not attempt to use a Dremel type tool to remove rust from brake pipes?

Once the rust is removed, is waxoyl the best thing to put on the pipes?

you need to buy brake pipe some brake unions and a flaring tool after that its a case of if you need to watch a you tube video can help sometimes once you done one the rest get easier :)

If the pipe(s) are badly rusted, no amount of "Camouflage" or tarting up is going to cure them. From a safety point of view, because the rust has already penetrated into the steel, just replace them with copper/cupro nickel piping....cheap as chips.

+1

Its a safety feature, get it sorted

I have not had time to look at them yet since it passed the mot due to work, but will in the next few days. Depending how bad they are I will formulate a plan.

What sort of price would I be looking at to replace the pipes with copper?

A few years ago I wire brushed what I thought was some light surface rust off the rear axle brake pipe on my Disco but I forgot to grease it and the tester spotted it and failed it. When I came to remove the pipe to replace it, it ruptured as soon as I tried to release it from its clips. Lesson learned......

Around a tenner for 25 ft. of 3/16" dia copper and a few pence each for M10 X 1mm pitch brake pipe nuts. You will need a brake pipe flaring kit and a mini pipe bender helps. Have a look on Ebay for the stuff.:)

Bloody hell, that is cheap!

I was expecting a few hundred pounds at least.

Sadly, I don't have access to a pit or car lift, so would have to put it on axle stands and work in limited space..

I shall definitely research this further as it is so cheap.

For a Freelander, all the brake pipes can be made from copper for less than £30. You will need to buy a flaring tool and a mini pipe bender, both will set you back another £30 to £40. So potentially you can change every pipe for less than £100 with fluid. For that small amount of money, it's just not worth talking a risk with rusty pipes.
