Morning

Our 2002 Freelander TD4 has come back from the MOT and the rear door will not open.

When you press the handle nothing happens and no noise is audible. The glass doesn't drop. However the glass can be lowered and raised using the centre console switch. When using the key in the rear lock nothing happens either.

I've checked the door lock fuse (15?) and it looks fine. The garage replaced an entire rear light unit on one side as it was corroded to hell and nothing was working. Does it sound like they might have unplugged something or cut something? just wondering how I can get the door open manually to look in the rear corners?

Thanks

Dunk

Thanks for the link, just tried that, and no joy :(

When I put the key in the rear lock and turn the glass doesn't move. Yet when using the center console button the glass moves up and down fine.

Convinced the garage who MOT'd it to look at it on Weds as it was working fine when it went in.

Will let you know the outcome, unless anyone has any other solutions that may work?

Cheers

Had a similar problem back in August, also noticed the handle was flapping. Found that the two small springs in the handle had corroded away and the limit switch in the handle wasn't making when pulling the handle. Springs were cheap enough on fleabay and took about 10 minutes to fit. Hope this helps

Dam....:( I'd be tempted to hold the handle in for a minute and see what happens, mine came back from the garage like it too - it was in for diagnostics for my hdc problem, they didnt even find out what wrong with my hdc but they managed to freeze up my tailgate door.

Good luck with it bud.

the key only operates the window ie: put it back up. it will not open the door.

Yup aware of that, was just stating that the glass lowers using the console but not for the key - in case it points to something in particular in the rear door?

The springs still seem to be in place, as when you press the handle it returns to its normal position fine. Just no click to open!

MOT centre looking at it tomorrow, hopefully they will fix it for nada, after all they broke the thing!

Thanks for all the replies guys

Turning the key in the tailgate lock doesn't bring the glass down - it just takes the glass back up...is it doing that ok Dunk?

Hi, yes when the window is down and key turned in the lock, the window goes up fine.

Just been to the garage they seem to think the lock mechansism is kaput, the on,y way they can see to open the door is to smash the old one off from inside, and replace with a new one?!

I've sourced one on Ebay to replace it,but surely there must be another way of releasing the door?!

If you read my link from page 1 you will find a link to Hippo's self test mode - see if it will open with this.

Also there are instructions of how to open the tailgate manually ...I had a lot of good advice in that thread.

I was doubtful of the lock being my problem because the glass should drop before the lock actuates ...same as yours the window worked well otherwise.

Can you hear a tiny click when you press the handle in?

I had the battery disconnected lots of times over the six weeks that I was on with mine so maybe if you disconnect the battery for 30 seconds or so then after you raise the glass back up hold the handle in for a minute and see if it resets like mine did.

also if you hold the open pad on your remote this will open the glass. so you have gathered the glass is operating ok ,you need to get the back door car off this is difficult because there are three or four screws holding it from the bottom. there is another way of opening the back door but if the lock is not working it will not work.
