Hi All

New to the forum so please excuse me if this has all been covered before. We are test driving a Freelander 2 2.2TD4 e GS manual on Saturday, 2009 59 plate with 25k on the clock. This is our first LR so no experience of them. I am slightly concerned by the talk of rear diff problems and/or haldex. Is there a certain age of vehicle from which the problems are better or are the newer aged ones as bad as the older ones.Is there anyway I can find out if the diff or haldex has already been replaced, we are not buying it from a LR dealer.
Also, is there anything I need to look for or be aware of when looking round the vehicle.
We are buying this primarily to tow with but wifey using it on a day to day basis.

Any/all advice gratefully accepted.

Our fl2 had this problem at about 25k miles, it sounds like a wheel bearing is going. He garage said leave until it gets worse.
It's now on 45k miles and it no worse.

It can effect any fl2 even newer ones. Although newer ones can be sorted by a slight software change that takes a bit of pressure off the bearing that causes the trouble.

I'm not sure if that includes 09 or not.

It certainly wouldn't put me off buying one. We've had ours 3 years and that's the only problem so far.

By the way I think autos are better for towing than the manual. Especially if your towing a big weight.

I've no experience of the FL2, but I have of the Haldex on a Yeti. I only did 41k in 2 1/2 years and had no problems. No other Yeti owner had any problems that I was aware of.

Have you asked over at freel2.com?
