This goes out to all freelander/disco owners with certain radios that are standard fit.
the black standard radio with cassette player if you turn on set at left hand black knob, then press the M button and hold for 10 secs it will go into test mode you can scroll with the on and off knob and certain info will come up such as serial no is 1st then as you scroll through it will show a dot matrix test on the screen radio frequency no signal strengh and quality, but the important 1 for me is the CODE it will show europa/usa/usa tp/ if you use the search button it will be possible to change to USA in doing this no radio code is required when you disconect the battery, and you can change it back as often as you like,do not select USA TP this will only tune in as high as radio 2 as usa tp is still run on AM frequency,if you want to select a no code scroll onto USA then turn off radio and then turn on radio so free code takes affect.
this will not work on the single cd players but will do some functions turning on and straight away hold the M button.
The becker system satnav is again different but you are able to access all the satelites and there numbers going around the globe but i will write all this info on beckers another night, cheers tiga

I tried it on the one that was in my discovery, unfortunately did not work so I am going to put in my trusty JVC cd shuttle system, then at least I can have some beats going to work.

I thought it would be useful to feedback. I wanted to disconnect the battery to fix the tailgate (turns out I had a snapped cable, so this wan't necessary). I used the instructions above to set the region code from EUROPA to USA and I also set 'REG' to 'OFF'.
I don't know what 'REG' does, but as long as I get a solution where I don't have to set the code (which I don't have) I'm happy.

I notice that with REG set to OFF, this is displayed very time you turn the stereo on for a few seconds.

If anyone knows what REG does could they post it here?

The stereo is a basic Land Rover tape cassette version.
