Had to swop bater on my 1999 2.0 diesel hippo, thought i had my original radio codes but found out i´ve lost those bloody 4 digit codes.

Any other way to get my codes with out having to drop my pants and bend over to my local stealer?

If you don't have the card which came with the handbook etc., the Stealers should be able to give you all the information from off the LR database. I would take the registration document (Log book) and another form of I.D. with you just in case the Stealer gets a bit snotty. They should not charge you for issuing the information and it will take them seconds to access it. If by any chance the radio etc. is not the original, there are plenty of places that will unlock the unit(s) so that they will not "Ask" for the code every time the battery is disconnected/reconnected.

Thank you for your sugestions Irish, i´ll do that and hopefully they´ll hand me the codes. I´m pretty sure they´ll charge something for it, i wonder how long will it take for my local stealer start charging for the very air we breathe inside his facility, they´re that greedy ´round here, bloody leeches!
My radio is still the original that came with ther vehicle. I´ll post what ever happends when i return from there.

Stick it in the freezer for 2 hours and the code will show on the screen!

Wonder if that really works, i´ve also heard you can unlock a cellphone by doing the same, never tried that me self.

It really does. Unlocked many head units that way :) can't see why technoligy would have changed but it might! I have my old tape unit out my disco I will try it on as I don't mind ####ing that up before you try yours I will let you know tomorrow morning if it safe to try!

Disclaimer: If you do indeed try the freezer method and for some reason it does break the head unit I do NOT accept any responsibility for those actions!

Hopefully i´ll get the codes from my local stealer, before freezing the radio Snowman! Tomorrow after work i´m going there and hopefully everything will work just fine.
either way i´ll post the result here!

I've got a download somewhere that gives you the radio codes for all Freelander 1, but I'm buggered if I can find it. Might be on the other half's PC. I'll check and get back to you.

Just to check have you removed the radio and checked its not written ontop of the radio? Mine has it on there.

I have, in fact that was the first thing i´ve done after realising that my codes were gone. I've removed the radio a little bit and on the lid there´s this sticker with the rádios production serial number on it, i guess this is all my local stealer needs to fetch me the codes.

Unfortunatly, waaaaaay back when i bought my hyppo, (2nd hand buy) the previous owner had lost most of the car´s manuals to a fire he had in his home library. I´m guessing the card with the codes or the radio manual must have been destroyed in the fire, and with it, so did the codes.

Anyway, in about 5 hours i´ll be heading to the stealer and sort things out!

I´ll post the outcome here.

Sorted!!!!

My radio is fully operational now, and all it took was the serial number!
And guess what, they´ve done it for free!!

Got there, told ´em i took my battery off and replaced it with a new one. Radio needed a 4 digits code to start but i didn't have the code.
He simply asked for the rádios serial number and my hyppo´s VIN number, typed it in his computer and that´s all it took!

More, he told me that the at the same time a radio is made, a serial number and a 4 digits code is issued, and the two must match at his terminal data base.

Anyway, problema sorted! Happy days!!! :D
Cheers for all who participated in this thread and offered they´re sugestions!

Great stuff !!:clap2::clap2:

Next time you are round that way, pop in and explain that the "Security Card" was lost/destroyed and ask them to give you either a duplicate or the information that was printed on it including the EKA etc.
It's always handy to have, you probably won't need it, but if you do.....it will be on a weekend or bank holiday when they are closed !!!:eek:

That's bollocks, the code is held in a chip not in the LCD, the code would show regularly if that were the case when the air temperature gets down to -15C or so which it does regularly in parts of Europe.

You can believe what you like I have no way of proving it as you would say any pics are tampered with. So to save effort you are right I'm a #### that wants to #### peoples stereos up as I'm jealous because I only a have screen for the dvd player in mine and I really wanted the 5k watt 12" subs but got the 2 2k watt subs.
