Help Please,
black smoke under accelaration. piersburg MAF fitted, ronbox fitted, DPH silicone hoses fitted and intake air temp sensor cleaned the best that I can. Can you test the sensor ? What do you think that I should try next. i.e what is the next most likely culprit ? FYI it smokes more when I put the map switch on on the ronbox ( synergy 2a).
The performance seems to be fine, landy accelerates ok and pulls up to 100mph easy enough but fuel economy is only approx 32 mpg.I love driving landy so I hope that someone can help so thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, all tightened and rechecked. I got the 3 piece set from DPH and got the T clamps instead of the jubilees.

How many miles has it done?

My TD4 auto had 120,000 miles on the clock and needed 2 new injectors. Since having them changed it does not smoke. It also sounds better.

just a punt, have you got the settings on the ronbox set right? esp for the maf.

Hi Dave,
I have only got it on air setting so no extra fuel via the map. Smokes alot more when the map is on. Basically I only have the MAF compensator on. I want the smoke issue sorted so that i can use the extra performance of the Ronbox.

Hi Matt,
if you mean the filter on the top of the engine, I have the toilet roll type. It has only been on since I serviced the car. I did put a new turbo vent filter on at the same time.

The Ronbox highlights any problems with the engine.

Still think it will be injector related at that mileage if on original injectors.

But even if them have been 'refurbished' which mine had when I bought it, the car smoked.

I ended up having LR refurbished ones fitted which sorted out many problems.

if you dont mind me asking, what sort of price did you pay for the LR ones ?

I had them fitted by an independent LR specialist. They were done at the same time as some other work, but it was somewhere around the £200+VAT each.

It took them a while to work out which ones were the problem as they compensate for each other.

You're doing pretty well to get 32mpg @ 100mph.

I know the 2.25 diesel is a completely different non-turboed animal to the German lump in your TD4, but he does research his stuff pretty well and all is pointing to injectors...

Exhaust smoke

It makes me cringe when I see the prices of injectors. HTF can 4 injectors really cost 1,000 quid. Silly money - maybe have a look on AliExpress :)

32 mpg at 100 mph I wish !! 32 mpg is my average day to day.

is the oil separator filter the BMW centrifuge type or the LR mesh? Centrifuge is the best one but if mesh, give it a good clean or change it. Either to centrifuge or another mesh.

Have you put injector cleaner through the system? Does better quality fuel help in any way?

Hi, just the mesh one. I replaced it a couple of months ago when i did a full service. would that effect the smoke issue. I am not sure what that filter actually does.
fuel is only BP as i need to collect as many necture points as i can at this mpg !!
I have given it a good dose of Redex a couple of times but it did not seem to make any difference.
