This thread is also if interest to me as I have just acquired an FL1 TD4. The first two I looked at were missing this gaiter. I think my acquisition is the same. Keep us informed of how you get on.

Thanks molly

Wrap insulation tape round the outside of the rollers. This will bind them into the tripod. Then place a cold chisel against the base of the tripod and strike with a hammer. The joint will pop off the splines afer a couple of taps. ;)

Hi guys, I've had to replace the gaitor/propshafr boot, can someone advise me as to what oil/greese I should be using for the UV joint? The black bit is full of a thin black oil. (Well was full until it leaked everywhere). Thanks

What is the wisdom on these. Is it the roller or the tripod that wears?? Got a decent prop with play in this joint is it best to change rollers or tripod bearing? Thanks...

Normally the part that wears is the slot, due to sliding action of the bearings.

The front prop joint is very similar to a VW driveshaft inner joint, but I've not done a side by side comparison.

My replacement gaitor arrived today so it's time to put it all back together, how much CV grease do I use? Do I pack it full or leave some space?? Thanks for the help
