Just bought a 2007 Freelander 2, getting used to the controls only to find that 3 radio buttons have no effect and the fast forward on cd doesn't work either!
Oh no all this money spent and just a 3 month warranty on engine and gearbox only. Surely the Bluetooth system must work, but no, no sign of life from that either.
First checked fuse in boot ok, then replaced the Bluetooth module with identical unit, no change, no indication on Premium radio display when phone button pushed or steering wheel button operated.
It's looking very much like multi button failure on 6CDX radio, the question is, has anyone attempted to replace whatever kind of switches are fitted to the pcb behind the fascia?
I'm waiting for a set of trim removal tools to arrive before attempting to remove the console.
The alternative would be to buy a double DIN replacement unit and drop it in, the only challenge being to get it working with the steering wheel controls.
But that's the easy way out, so has anyone had the fascia apart before?
Give me an insight into what I'm facing.

Thanks in advance.

The panel is a separate part and is easy to replace - remove speaker cover on dash top, unscrew the heater control surround panel (about 4 screws from memory) and then the whole panel lifts off. It's clipped at the bottom just gently pull to release.

As for phone not working - where's the module located that you replaced? If car isn't configured for bluetooth it'll never work.

As for fitting a double din head unit then good luck as then parking aid goes through the radio system and you'll lose the beeps!

If you weren't so far away I'd come and look at it for you!

Thanks for quick reply td4van, Bluetooth module sits on top of audio amp in offside rear wing.
By "configured" do you mean going through a setup procedure to let system know it's there? The car is an SE with many of the HSE gizmos fitted and definately has module connected and powered. Disconnect it and radio stops working. Should be plug and play.
I'll be working in Gloucestershire in a couple of weeks time but will be driving Company YETI so can't let you check out FL2.
Thanks very much for the offer.

Was checking if you had factory or aftermarket bluetooth fitted - you have factory bluetooth fitted.

On the car is a file sent around the Comms networks on the car which contains the features fitted to the car and then the modules use this to work out what to turn on and off - Bluetooth is one of these features.

Even though the module is present in the car Bluetooth won't work without being enabled. Not saying this is your problem but it needs checking.

Sounds like a job for Diagnostics Man, and I bet that means an expensive visit to a main dealer, necessary if that's the only way.
Thanks for info.

Sorted .................... doing point to point tests on pcb.
Fault traced to dry joint on routing diode on radio module behind front panel. All "faulty" switches working at last.

BUT ....... now I'm faced with the notorious Freelander Bluetooth WILL NOT PAIR problem.

Tried 3 phones, car can see phone, but phone can't see car, therefore no pairing possible.

Oh well, at least the buttons work now.

How many phones do you have paired already in the phone memory?

Any more then 5 and you can't add new ones - delete all the entries and try again!

And good news on the head unit fix!

Hello again,
no phones in memory and module recognises the 5 devices I've tried to pair but not one of them can see the car!
Got a 2nd hand identical module with 4 phones in memory. Exactly the same result , can't pair with that one either.
2006 modules needs updating to latest bluetooth spec. and then they might recognise new phones.
I've read enough postings to realise that I'm not the only one who has bluetooth pairing problems, it happens on all cars.
Will eventually contact Bluetooth Exchange and discuss the options with them (check out the website in case someone else needs help)
Thought about using a Parrot CK3100, but the wiring is a lot more complicated than I expected due to the premium radio and rear mounted amp.
Incidentally the Parrot website says all it's products are incompatible with Freelanders!!!
For now, I'm using a visor mounted Supertooth Buddy, it works very well.

thanks for your help td4van

So when you select the phone option on the radio what does it show?

I wonder if it is the config which has dropped the bluetooth setting?

Bluetooth exchange is for Discovery 3, RR Sport and full size RR - Freelander 2 to my knowledge doesn't suffer from the same issues as those vehicles due to a totally different bluetooth system.

What part number is the module you have fitted/tried?

Select phone option and it goes through various screens to start pairing.

At same time start scanning on phone.

Car displays phone model but phone can't find car.

Tried 4 different Samsung and an old Nokia.

Different bluetooth specs not talking to each other?

Part number of FoMoCo module is 6G9N-19C024-AL

After more research into Bluetooth, it seems that, not only do you have to use a phone on the Land Rover compatibility list but it also has to have the exact same OS build number shown as well.
The wrong version of IOS or Android renders your phone incompatible with the LR/Ford Bluetooth module fitted to Freelander 2.
This explains why some people have problems and others don't with the same phone type.

Found a post where someone had replaced a 2007 module with one from a 2010 LR. Fixed his pairing problems.

Until I can find a way round this I'll continue using the visor mount system.
