This has come up on my ebay equivalent...

Land Rover Freelander 1.8 1998 | Trade Me

Its a reasonably low mileage 1.8 that's had cambelt failure.

If its cheap enough, I might get it as a parts car - could do with roof rails, drivers seat, wing mirrors, headlamp, clock - and that's just for starters. Presumably everything apart from the engine and its ecu is interchangeable with my L Series Freelander?

Most of the bits I want would still leave the car road worthy and I could use it as a "mud plugger" if the engine can be sorted. Any ideas whether cambelt failure causes a lot of damage on a K Series?

The K series is an interference engine so belt failure results in at least some bent valves. If the failure was at higher revs then piston and head damage can also be caused.

I would not really bother with that engine if it has had belt fail as it can do more damage that you think it they are selling it then probably they know its a no go situation , if you buy it get another engine for it
