Yes.

Had a Rover Ron Ronbox fitted until last weekend.

They are okay, giving about 140bhp approx.

I going old school and having mine remapped this week instead. I personally prefer a remap to a box.

I'm going the same way as Mike, remap on Wednesday, weighed up the pro's and cons and decided a remap is the best way forward.

Thank you for your replies, would you both be kind enough to let me know how your TD4 preforms, and what you have done exactly? Kind Regards, Will

Fitted a Synergy 2e to my 06 TD4 Auto.

Set it for mpg not torque and it has significantly improved mileage. I fitted a Pierburgh maf sensor too.

The Synergy 2a adds more power if you want it.The main reason I chose the 2e was because the insurance company was not interested in it.

Thank You, I need torque over mpg, for towing.
I have Greatly improved my MPG by using Super Diesel, when not towing and doing motorway runs, its increased to approximately 39/41 ish mpg, thats filling the tank too brim full, then same again when the journeys completed. TD4 Auto 70/75mph.

I used Remapping and Chip Tuning Specialists : Torquing BHP Ltd and the improvement in torque and BHP was excellent. Fantastic performance. Call Darrell there and have a chat with him, he'll offer excellent advice.

whats the bhp roughly going to be guy down near me does remaps says the TD4 is £110 to do

Be careful with budget re-maps. Many use a generic off the shelf map. These are little different to the plug on boxes in function without the power/ economy switchs.
It's far better to have the ECU mapped on the rollers.

It's difficult to know who to use, especially if you have been told that the map works.
Personally I'm not up to date on diesel re-maps but i've had lots of petrol cars mapped over the years. N/A petrol is different but the process is similar.
With a N/A petrol re-map the map is always done last thing. So you do any physical mods like exhaust and air filter before optimising the engine maps on the rollers.
With a turbo diesel there are less parameters to alter, like. Fuel volume (injector pulse width) Boost pressure (waste gate activation) and injector timing. Diesel being a reasonably simple engine in terms of what makes power, it's easy to whack the boost up and dump loads more fuel in, hay presto lots of torque. There are things to bear in mind however. The more fuel you burn, the more exhaust gas heat is generated. This exhaust gas heat needs to be kept under control buy limiting the boost and fueling to within safe levels. This is where the guy with experience come in handy. He knows just what the engine can take and won't push his luck and yours by trying to get more.
To much exhaust heat can be very damaging.

average figures are 143bhp with 330NM torque kept within safe limits. Apparently if I fit a bigger intercooler like the ones that Allisport do I can get over 150bhp with 350ish NM, but given the cost of their IC's, that'll be a while away yet!

Standard figures (on the manual gearbox, auto slightly detuned) are 112bhp and 260NM for reference.

Durham Remaps have got any amount of positive reviews on a variety of cars, they have a website too

Am I right in thinking, that if you chip/remap a TD4, it will have approximately the same power output as a standard Disco TD5,
TD5 135bhp std
TD4 chipped 140bhp

something like that, but less torque, td5 is 5cyl for a start, drives differently, different power delivery, bit hard to compare, heavier cars too

Im clutching at straws this end! I am trying to find a solution to my towing problems, without changing my car! I am tempted to put a "Tunit" chip on the TD4 and try it, if all fails, I can remove the chip and buy a Disco TD5, Tunit will then re-programme it for the TD5.

Out of interest, what are you towing, and what weight?
