I've got a 2007 Freelander. The parking sensors were working fine yesterday (sunny) but won't today (pouring down). I've read on forums that rain sometime affects them and to spray them with solicone spray. Would WD40 do the trick? Does anyone have a link to "How to Replace Rear Parking Sensors" just in case one is faulty?

Yes WD40 is a good moisture displacer so that should help. One trick I heard is to put the car in reverse and then have some one listen for the click that each one makes, if one isnt clicking then in needs to be replaced.

Spray plays havok with mine so I imagine it just needs to dry out. Kind of crap but the technology isn't perfect yet.

Will.

Yes the sensors are very prone to faulting in the rain.

If you replicate the fault, there are very easy ways to see which sensors are functioning and which arent.

If you activate the pdc system, so the sensors should operate if an object is detected. Then touch your finger to the sensor and put your eat to it, you should be able to feel it lightly clicking and hear it audibly. If not, the sensor isnt currently functioning.

Only trouble with WD40 is it quickly evaporates and leaves a sticky residue..... Personally I would have a listen to all the sensors to see if they are clicking correctly if you find one to be suspect first of all check the wiring plug at the back of the plug for moisture or oxidisation at the connector's give the wires a good tug to make sure no water has tracked down the harness and damaged the wiring, if this all checks out ok go for a new sensor if not then a simple wiring repair and cable harness is required.... If you need a new connector I have numerous new one kicking about.
