hi guys just bought a 2001 td4 three door freelander last owner said it had a starting problem when warm but would be ok after an hour or so ..... well up to now really pleased with it had a read on the forums about the various causes and cures etc so started with an stp fuel system cleaner, new air filter, oil/filter change, crankcase filter and fuel filter checked the fuel rail connector and the crankcase sensor connections and the fault has not reared its head however i did notice that twice i had difficulty starting it when it was on a bit of an incline an the fuel level was a bit on the low side has this happened to anyone else? also another question for the initiated i was going to change the fuel filter and thought it was under the rear right wing but on taking it off (the undershield) and thinking i was looking for the filter assembly( have since realised this is only on from 2003 and found the filter in engine compartment) just found what looks like a small electric pump? but cant find anything in the manual can anyone tell me what this is ?
thanks paul

Hi Paul...

The forum etiquette is to find your way into the introduction area. And make your first post a hello there....

:rulez:

Once you have done that people will usually be willing to help. Although my td4 knowledge is limited.....

sorry for the non introduction has now been rectified, had been to busy looking for cures to realise i had been impolite.
thanks paul

going by the pics on this page:
http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-diesel-fuel-filter-56985.html

i'd guess it be the low pressure fuel pump
( i may be wrong as i've only seen the latter model setup )

on later models the fuel filter/l.p. pump/sedimenter be located under the
offside (uk) rear wheel arch

thanks for the reply, i am aware of the filter and the low pressure pump on the bulkhead now, as i say i was mistakenly looking for them under the right hand wheel arch not realising that LR changed them in 2003 so when i took the liner out all i found was what looks like a small electric pump but i cant find any reference to it in the manual does anyone know what it is?
thanks paul
