I bought a fault scanna.. a ELM327 OBD2 and got the software
installed ok, the drivers was a pain tu install, but anyway.. i hooked it
up to the car, un found my COM port to use, and saved it in the software
as per instucted.

Now, come to use the fault find, un i get this window...

"YOUR DEVICE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A GENUIN ELMSCAN 5
DUE TO THERE POOR QUALITY AND HIGH SUPPORT COSTS, ELM327
CLONES ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTED.
PLEASE VISIT WWW.SCANTOOL.NET TO PURCHASE A GENUINE
SCAN TOOL"

you click "ok", un the hole thing shuts down!!

Ahhhh... bastid thing!!

Had the same problem, scantool makes the elm327 and the software, when the cheap copies flooded the market scantool put a block on using there freeware on them, If you completely remove the scantool software and install it again it should work but don't connect to scantool.net as they will detect it is a cheap copy. Hope this helps

If you do a on the web for elm327 obd2 software you will find other software that works.

I had this problem. If you can get around this by starting the software with the connector to the car unplugged. It will complain that the interface cannot be found, but will not exit the program. You can then connect the box to the car and it works.
