my first mod on my landy
Hi all
well I did my first mod on the freelander 1 today, the BMW crankcase filter one, bit of a faf as rear bolts on the cover were a bit awkward to get to but not too bad though, filter was a lot oily though so maybe got it in time.
wish I had thought about the air filter as I could have done it at the same time, it's a bit grubby but it can wait till the better weather then I can drop a pipercross in then.
Then I unbolted the old leaky sunroof and dropped in a brand new one, did up the bolts and job done, hope it doesn't leak now lol (expensive but worth it for the hassle) I won't be using the roof again so will pull the fuse when I find which one it is....no leak no problem:)
next job is the thermostat...in line top hose (of course) and then the ERG bypass, not sure what that coolant pipe thing ? connected to the old ERG is, what do you do with it ?
anyway reasonably happy with todays efforts.:p

if you are planning to use one of those filters that you oil , then do not as it upsets the maf .how much did the sunroof cost was it brand new I need to get the 2 slides (one each side)as there is nothing wrong with the frame work ,just the previous owner had a go at it and some parts are missing and last weekend it stuck in the vent position I have got it to go down now but need to get it done.

coolant pipe ? ..
u mean the exhaust feed to the egr which goes thru a cooling-section ?

that's still connected to the egr-delete gizmo ..
except the 'delete' ( bypass ) thing will simply have a part that connects to
that exhaust feed .. but it's totaly blocked so no exhaust gas enters the manifold at all ..

'n here's a diagram for the egr-delete vacuum hoses ..

Hi teddywood
The air filter that I plan to use is the pipercross, same make as on my Audi TT , no need to oil them, it's the K&N filters that need oiling, As to the sunroof....it was just the glass part bonded to the metal frame that I bought, the runners etc didn't need any Replacing, mind you I still wont be opening the roof up ever, just need it to be watertight. Personally, seal it and use the windows/back window down for air.....much better.

Hi hd3
Daft description I know that I posted, will have to put a pic up....looking at the erg from the front of the car, you have the vac hose to the round part in front of you, then on the other side of the erg is this pipe connected to who knows where... (still finding my way round the engine bay), is that what you meen ?
Most erg's I have seen have a short stub (blocked for the vac) then a large disc type thing on a short stub on the other side....for what reason I'm not sure.

instead of replacing the whole EGR, block off the exhaust inlet into the EGR with a 22mm copper/steel pipe end piece, remove the EGR and give it a good clean with oven cleaner

yes .. it's the exhaust feed to the egr ..
the exhaust gas is cooled down before it enters the egr ..

large disc thing is connected to the cooled exhaust feed ..
just undo the connecting clip thingy .. all will become clear :)
( that 'disc' is solid on purpose .. to block the exhaust gas to the egr )

cheers hd3
it all becomes clear now lol

Well I have changed the egr for the bypass one (stainless steel) not too bad to do although took it for a test drive and blew off the inlet hose to the egr, the old egr I will clean and keep (or sell it if there is a market) the old one, but to be fair it wasn't to bad inside, the next job is the thermostat I still need to find out what the inside diameter of the top hose is, might buy a second top hose and retry and fit the gates thermo in it without having the car off the road.
