Thanks for the suggestions.

I do not want to remap the vehicle and would like to keep the security system in place if possible.

I am still trying to find a mobile service who will come to the vehicle and programme the key/fob. I will ring Norbert/Sue, thank you.

If I cannot get anyone out my problems now are:

Finding where is best to take the Freelander to be programmed
Arranging transport there as MOT/tax have now run out.

I understand you cannot easily move a vehicle with no MOT/tax as RAC or AA wont touch them and there are restrictions on other vehicles moving the car.

Still stuck at present but will keep trying to resolve it.

You don't need not or tax to drive to an not test center with a booked appointment for the vehicle your driving for an not there, I suppose its to allow worn vehicles and failed vehicles that have been fixed za way of getting back to the not center, but obv you can't drive yours which I forgot when reading the bit about RAC..

I bet someone on here lives near you with a rtransporter try posting an add..

hi

how u getting on

did u by the way see that hunters have got a twitter and facebook page

Servicing and Maintenance | Hunters Land Rover

plus i see hunters is a multiple owned company and maybe get i touch with the head office

will they install a second hand ecu for u as the 400 quid ecu is too expensive

will be interested to see how u get on

i emailed hunters out of curiosity and they got back to me quoting

require a key , new fob and control unit at a cost of 379.10 inc vat
plus 48.00 inc vat for programming

to fit the box is extra 75 quid or so

i asked them about getting a second hand one and then they said

the control unit is the key module and would need replacing with the new keys as they are ordered to your specific vin hence a second hand one would not program

what thieving gits, when my local main dealer said nothing about requiring a new module and would do the whole lot for around 200 quid

hope debs gets it sorted out, was just interested in how one main dealer quotes one price and other dealers quotes something else, just think its terrible giving bad customer service and ripping people off

still there was a time when dealers told me it was impossible to retrofit cruise control in the autos, how wrong they were, lol

Came across these on ebay, freelander key fob from perrys landrover dealer for £23.48 with free delivery.

Land Rover Freelander Genuine OE Key Fob Remote Control Alarm System New | eBay

Uncut freelander key without transponder for £2.15 plus 99p postage, local locksmith should be able to cut the key.

Replacement Land Rover Discovery Freelander Defender Blank transponder key | eBay

trouble is the key which is the same as mine has the transponder unit in it

plus to be honest dont know how the full alarm works ,

is there two ecus, ie one for the keyfob and one for the key

am terrible in getting into this, just always good in getting more knowledge under ur belt

plus in the mean time have put my spare key away in a safe place :):):)

cheers about the link as ive got to get another key fob, got a hawk eye which i know will program the fob but very nervous in doing it in case i wipe the bloody code off the key and wont allow the car to start , lol

see theres the other key fobs where the key folds into the remote but by the looks of it have to glue them together

How do you program the transponder chip in the key?

There are some new landrover freelander transponder chips on ebay for a fiver, if i put the chip in a key blank available for £2.15, then get the key cut.

What do i need to do to get the chip working with my freelander.

Hi Gary

I contacted the details in the link you provided whereby they take calls for garages and get back to you. I am still waiting to hear back from them
