Thanks for your suggestions but I am not yet fully familiar with cars and terminology.

I am trying hard to learn as fast as I can but as yet have a long way to go. I was not aware that anything such as a remapping place even existed until you just mentioned it.

If you go the postman route ...tell them exactly where you are with your new key etc ...if they foresee a problem then they should let you know.

A bloke at work lost his only Disco key and fob ...cost him £600 + for them to come and pick up his car, provide a new key and program the fob ...unbelievable but he thought there was no other way.

So from reading about it just now vehicle remapping replaces or overwrites the default software on the ECU, yes?

Does this remap programme the keys and fobs then? Surely that's a different thing?

Apparently the Freelander needs to have a MEMS 3 ECU (with coil packs) to enable it to be re-mapped. How would I know if that is what my car has?

More questions, my head hurts :)

Brack - thanks I will ensure I do that. There is no way I can afford £600 to solve this problem.

It's crazy, just to replace a key and get a car started!

Remapping is usually for power boosts and or economy, but as they have the kit to access the ecu, maybe they can just turn the key code at the ecu end off, they could maybe even sort the Immobiliser awsell if it needs it ( that's if they can do this at all)

I'd say any ecu can be remapped - butifnotyour really asking to loose the codes so you can start it the extra poke is really a bonus..

ECU Engine Remapping & Chip Tuning by Remap Science maybe worth a call atleastull know if its possible

The key you have purchased from the dealer will start your car, it is already programmed to your car and just needs the rolling code syncronising. You don't need a valid working key to do this. I have never come across a security ecu that is full ( must be a very absent minded person to lose their keys 12 times)

Owl.
Is this something yu could sort at the OPs?

What if she covers your costs? Better than a £400 ecu????

Unfortuantly not, I don't have a T4 and work wouldn't let me take theirs home anyway. The op just needs to get the car to a main dealer and ask them to syncronise the rolling code or maybe an indy might be able to come out with their equipment (Hawkeye etc) and do it if they can. I don't have experiance with other diagnostic tools only T4 and IDS/SDD.

I will look into whether there are any independent Land Rover mechanics locally and what diagnostic equipment they have. What diagnostics do I need please?

owl, do u think a hawk eye could do this

know it does remotes but just didn't know is there someone near kings Lynn that could possibly try and use a hawkeye to get her up and running

ive got one but I'm down in kent otherwise i would have been more than happy to have tried it

I have contacted Anglia Locksmiths (link in previous post) who are unable to help me. They say it has to go the the main dealer as the key is part coded and needs the barcode which I do not have.
