Further to the problems i had with the loss of reverse gear after the removal of the wrong bolt by the garage. They have now sorted this with an easy simple fix i will post the details when i receive the write up from the mechanic from the garage. All is now well and smooth as silk happy days...

They have come with a unique but simple idea! the mechanic is a good lad switched on and is going to do a write up and email it to me.As soon as i have it i will post it....Watch this space..

Had exactly the same problem on a Volvo V70 auto. Undid the wrong bolt to change the fluid and as a result lost 3rd gear. However when I eventually got the car back to the garage he immediately apologised and vowed to fix it. he did so without removing the gearbox, using a method I found on an internet forum, in about an hour and since then there were no problems.
ps I traded the V70 in for the Freelander last November.

I think it is similar to that he did say they drilled the bolt then put the brake band back in position using a screwdriver they then then tapped the bolt and inserted a a smaller bolt to lock the brake band into position. It works spot on.Like i said he is going to send me a write up which i will post on here

They would have tapped the bolt to fill the hole in the bolt to stop ya oily stuff coming out.....they could have just welded it..but sounds like they know what there doing...which is always good to hear.
