Have a TD4 commercial freelander.

As I use it for work, I carry quite a lot of weight in the back and notice that the rear end is quite low when fully loaded. Now I know that the ground clearance isnt the best on the freelander anyway but when loaded up there is a noticable difference at the back.

I have tried moving as much of the weight as far forward as possible with very little improvement.

I was thinking of shelling out for a lift kit but is there any other options to maybe even just return the rear to normal so it aint dragging along the ground. Years ago I remember seeing plastic/rubber inserts for springs to be used to firm up the suspension on cars when towing. Would this work? Would there be any long term implications.

Any other suggestions please?

would go for beefing up the suspension rather than a lift. I think the spring assisters are available for the freelander commercial. The lift kit will just give you more travel, but be just as soft, whereas stronger springs will stop it from sinking as much. Might want to check with your insurance company whether they have a problem with this too, as it will affect the handling.

my td4 commercial always looks a bit low when loaded right up too, but doesn't seem to affect the handling as much as loading a car would.

So when you say beef up the suspension, do you mean by assistors or in another way? Would the assistors have an advers affect?
