Just bought a modded Freelander TD4... seems to have no front PropShaft!

I'm not the only one to have bouht a Freelander by auction, in the wet, only to find bits missing then :D

Ours was missing the entire setup, front and rear prop shaft and VCU, hopefully you made the same sort of saving we did and have the 'spare' cash to fix it with out spending more than you would have done buying privately.

Front propshafts aren't cheap, even on eBay, and when you get one treat the front CV with great care, if it goes past a certain angle the seals and bearings can be damaged, see Hippo's excellent how to on changing VCU bearings for more on this.

Well, I got the wagon into the garage so I could get some pictures in the dry...

I assume these are of the IRD and VCU, implying its only the propshaft that's missing?

Hmmm. No holes in anything? Like the rear diff or IRD casing! If it looks ok I think I'd be inclined to put a prop on and test it!?!?

No holes that I can see. I'm leaning towards the garage needing a propshaft for someone else, so taking it off this...

Possibly a silly question, but when I get hold of a shaft and fit it, what should I look for? Will it be pretty obvious if there's a problem?

Also discovered the sunroof doesn't work... not a major with all this rain though!

Clonks and bangs from the IRD and diff and signs of the vcu being seized! Do a search on testing them there's loads of good info on it. Or get it to bell engineering they seem very well respected from what I hear. The vcu can do a lot of damage so it's important to have one in good working order
