Have done thread search and a good read up - but this seems a bit different. Anyone help please??

Td4 Auto - drives perfectly forward. Completed 150 mile run and now when you select Reverse, R comes up, reverse lights come on, but although the transmission jerks a bit, the car does not move backwards.

Just been out to turn it round !!! Car will coast in Neutral when going forwards, but cannot push the car backwards, it feels like it is in Park when actually in Neutral, but only for reverse pushing. I can roll it forward.

Will be doing all the solenoid tests tomorrow but fear it is the reverse band - not sure what that is yet !!!

Anyone got similar experience?? No transmission oil checks or changes recently, car has done 107k.

Many thanks, Andrew

So thinking about it - is it possible for the gearbox to be told to be in Reverse and Park at the same time??

By repeated shifting from Neutral to Reverse I can jerk it back about 3 inches at a time. Does this prove the reverse mech is still intact??

Thanks for tip ! Decided to put all wheels in air, all are free to turn, when Reverse selected nothing moves.

So - thanks to Hippo - followed the You Tube sensor and Solenoid guide - excellent stuff.

All tested out o.k. So called All Gears and engines (Leyton) as recommended by Wazz72.

They are really helpful, have promised a review of their works on this site. Dropped car off today. They offer a drop back to station service and all diagnostics are free with work.

They think a reverse band - but will update when works completed. drove it the 50 miles there o.k - felt a bit tight when pulling away, but coasted o.k.

O.k - all sorted, it was a fractured 'drum' in the box. Have photo if you are interested.

Decided to go for a full recon box which All Gears And Engines fitted in just a day. £895 all inc.

Very pleased with their service and they pick you up and return you to a nearby railway station.

Can't recommend them enough. Have asked for a 'trustworthy garages' list to be added to this site - they will be on it if it appears !!

Great to hear you are sorted.

Did they replace the torque converter as well?

That is very, very cheap for a fitted price. I have been quoted £1750+VAT by a guy in Hailsham who is recommended and Ashcroft Transmissions charge £1550 fitted.

Torque Converter was o.k. As far as i can see they replaced a fractured low clutch case and any other related damaged items.

The box comes with 10k or 6 month warrantee.

Can't find recommended garage list???
