Intermittent power loss td4

Hi all
I'm having a problem with my 2002 td4. When driving most of the time it's fine but when I come to a long uphill gradient it occasionally looses power. If I back my foot of the throttle a bit normal power will return after 5 seconds or so. It doesn't matter what gear your in or what speed you are doing more how hard you are pressing the throttle. I thought it might be the electric fuel pump so replaced it with a genuine Bosch one. I have serviced the vehicle all new filters and oil etc. There are no fuel leaks I can find.
When I fitted the new pump I turned on the ignition to prime the system and I could hear what I thought was air being forced out of the system from somewhere this stopped shortly before the pump stopped. Is this normal.

Can I ask where you got the Bosch from? I am looking for one myself at the moment, guess it's under bonnet one?

Hi yes I have just read the thread from start to finish. Thing is mine will cruise at 80 no problem, when the fault occurs it's usually if I get a bit heavy with the right foot ie floor it up hill to pass someone. There is no smoke or worrying noises.. I've done the egr mod, new crankcase breather and I do try to look after it regular service etc. I do use millers occasionally prob once a month or so and mainly fuel up at she'll not supermarkets. I will check the hoses etc but it seems more fuel related to me.
I got the Bosch pump from a Bosch diesel specialist we deal with at work and yes it's the under the bonnet one. Shop around there expensive my first quote was over £200 trade

Are the turbo hoses ok? My one looked like a mess when the rovertune guy showed me. Otherwise the map and maf maybe? Wanted to clean my one today, but it was raining whole day.

Top end power is not great, even when remapped. Okay, mine is an Eco-remap.

Bottom end is fine.

Do you have any blockages in the pipes?

You did change the fuel filter and the turbo vent filter?

did you chekc the high pressure sensor on the fuel rail. my one was constantly bouncing on and off power and turned out the connectors had a load of green on them.cleaned it and job done

If after you have checked and it turns out to be the Maf these are a great price the inserts are the same so a good saving.

Hi sorry for the delay replying I still have the fault and eventually got round to having a diagnostic check. The fault code is P1470 boost pressure. Has anyone any idea what I should be looking for.

If all the turbo hoses are OK not got any holes or splits in them then it could be the MAP sensor may only need a clean as mine did or a replacement.
When I took the MAP sensor off mine the hole down the sensor was blocked up and after cleaning it out it works just fine.

I agree each year I change my manifold and clean the MAP sensor as I have spares, it is possible just about to remove the MAP sensor with the manifold in place 10mm small socket or ratchet spanner, remove and clean with carb cleaner but do not spray direct into the hole of the MAP you can use a small cable tie to get the gunk out but do not poke to far insdie or it could be damaged.







you will need to move the fuel line out of the way to get access.








That is unless you want to remove the manifold to give it a clean, then you have to remove the MAP anyways to clean out the manifold.





Please remember though to check the hoses on the turbo

Cleaned mine today... All the duct where the sensor is housed was clogged !!!
So if you have performance issues dont forget to check this sensor.

ok i have just last week cured a very similar problem as this, td4 runs ok but looses power on the inclines around the 60 to 70 mph,

i bought a new turbo solenoid valve £36, but while i was taking the vacuum pipes off quite a lot of water ran out ? condensation ?
anyways fitted the new solenoid and now running as normal

so 1st check the vacuum pipes,
and for the small cost just replace the turbo solenoid ,as thats what the symptoms are pointing to
