Hi folks,

Just thought I'd let you know about my experiences with the dreaded 3 amigos!

After doing all the checks, brake light sensor, reluctor rings etc the only thing I could see wrong was the HD wires had been broken off, but despite soldering them back on, the warning lights remained on.

I thought I'd be smart and removed the bulbs from the dash and popped it in for an mot but inspector failed it for not having the tell tale warning lamp illuminated prior to starting engine....grrrrr!

The only garage which could read the fault codes were going to charge me around £40 and after many hours of 'should I, or shouldn't I', I took the plunge and ordered icarsoft i930 for £90.

Arrived today and eagerly plugged it in. Took me a few attempts after playing around with it but I'm happy to say it cleared all the lights. Yeehaw!!! The ABS light stay on until I moved the landy a couple of feet and at first I thought the fault was still there. On reading about it though, this would appear normal and the car need to move so the sensor car tell it's rotating. I have a 1999 1.8K series Freelander by the way.

So, if your like me and tried all the suggestions on the forums and nothing works and your still unsure about whether to pay the £90 for the diagnostics, then in my opinion it's worth it. At the very most if you don't use it again I'm sure you could sell it on again for £70 or something.

I think in my case the faults were hard stored in the ECU and needed cleared, but it also reads Discos, Range Rovers and the new Evoque. For me anyway, it's been worth it so far.

Plus if anybody in the Dundee area needs their codes read, then give us a shout.

it takes the car to get to 5 mph before the light goes out on early models only .

Just wondering ...after you've cleared the faults... does your ABS light blink off then on again before going out completely at 5 mph - if so then its done its job properly.

Nice, Im saving up for one as we speak

They look like a good piece of kit at a reasonable price.

What other modules can it access? Can it access the air bags.....seems worth it just to find abs faults, with garages charging £40 just for a diagnostics scan...

Does it give live data?

Looking at the sales literature. It covers all modules. ABS, SRS, Diesel Engines, Petrol Engines and Auto Box. I don't know about the CCU or Alarm ECU though.

Hmmm well if it does what it says then it's well worth the money.

I have also just recieved my i930 diagnostics unit, I found information was very vague. I tried to clear the SRS light, the option was (yes) to clear or (no) to cancel, have you any idea how I select yes with buttons available.

From looking at a pic of the i930, i'd say select yes or no with the up/down left/right keys, when your on yes it will probably highlighted then select ok.

The question I want to know:

Does it have the same capability as the hawkeye? Do they both do the same things, or does one do more than the other?

I've just got an XC90 as a project and the i930 gets good reviews on the Volvo forums as well.

It seems to do the lot? It listed the auto box which was surprising....

So it does the same as the Hawkeye but costs nearly £200 less.

What's the catch?

The arrows don't select the yes and no, I have emailed the supplier and they have suggested that ok means (yes) and esc means (no) I am new to diagnostics and not familiar with the terminology, the small instruction booklet explained how to scoll through menus but very little else. The unit was recommended by the supplier for Landrovers, but in there reply they were not very helpful and said that it is new to the market.
Help from someone who has spent sometime figuring it out would be helpful.

I have one of these and have found the manual to be useless, I had problems updating mine as my laptop is a Macbook and the wife's has Vista on it an their software only works with XP or windows 7.

I think that the Hawkeye can do more such as programming keys and fobs.

By the way their tech support told me that using it on a car with a fault can break it and it wouldn't be covered by the warrantee so you should fix any faults on your car before plugging it in, what good is a fault reader if you can't plug it into a car with a fault to find out what it is so you can fix it.
