Guys I want to remove and replace the 1.8 engine and need to know how to split the manual gearbox from the engine leaving the gearbox and IRD in situ and removing the engine from above.
How many bolts are there and their positions?
Any special lining up required
or special tools?
Pics would be good but any help greatly appreciated.
Regards
john

The only interestingly placed bolt is the one located between the IRD unit and engine block.

If you remove the breather pipe from the inlet manifold and proper stick your head down the back there. You will easilly spot the one that you need to find, to remove the gearbox with the IRD in position.

Everything else is pretty standard gearbox removal imho.

Although if your using a ramp, i'd remove the IRD , takes about 15 minutes extra if you know what your doing and makes lining the gearbox backup alot easier.

Thanks for this.
I was wanting to remove the engine and leave the gearbox on the car with the ird and driveshafts untouched. Is this possible?
Many thanks
