could be two things 1. low fuel pressure from faulty fuel pump, or low pressure caused by an injector leaking back fuel,

my money's on the injectors, had exactly this with mine, quite a lengthy post on it somewhere.

i assume when you say ticking over, you mean turning over but not firing. ticking over is when the engine is idling with no throttle setting.

thanks for all the replies. we have had rac out today and they seem to think that it is a sensory problem releasing the fuel to the injectors (sorry yes i do mean turning over) do you think this is a possiblity. they couldn't fix it then as need a part for it so will be going to garage monday

As stated above it will 99% due to a leaking injector, we have done many with same problem, do a search on how to test for it as there are many posts. Problem you will have is a expensive job as the injectors alone are £150 each, dont take it to the main stealers as the normally change all 4 and no change out of £1000. Best of luck and once you get it running look at getting a disco

lol, i seee ur still slaggin dealers off lol, we would do a leak bac test a change the relevent faulty injector ,,,,,

but yes if u can start on easy start spray, and then it runs ok , then defo an injector. due to the injector leaking back you just lose the suffecient pressure needed to start the engine.

surely better to change all 4 while it's apart. where one goes, the others will surely follow ?

Just to give a bit of pricing, at a local independent (not just landy, does all cars), had all 4 of mine replaced, and recovered to and from a diesel specialist just to confirm their diagnosis on the back of a recovery truck, and the specialists time, came in just shy of £800, incl. parts labour and VAT.

Good luck

well i can change an injector in probs 45 mins easy,,, 20 mins if its injector number 1( no need to remove inlet manifold for injector 1).

so i would say if its not faulty dont change it ,,, especially as there are 4 of them. if it costs 150 for injector and 100 to have it replaced y pay 800 if the others are ok at the time. and could be ok for no end of time :P

comes down to reliability. mine the commercial version which I use for work and it's packed out with gear. To be without it is a major ache, so I saw it as preventative maintenance.

Luckily, when the injector (no. 2 incidentally) failed, I was at home, so the inconvenience was minor as I could unload at home into my shed before it was trailered away, and organise alternative transport.

Had I have been 300 miles (or further away) it would have been a right nightmare.

Top lad for being able to change an injector for 45 mins, but I bet it doesn't say 45 mins labour on the invoice (assuming you work for a dealer)
