Hie guys,
My freelander engine is looking oil pressure while the oil level is fine. Further more there is a tapping/ cracking sound when ever I excellerate. I was advised to replace the engine. This is too expensive to let some do it and I am one of those stubborn do it yourself guys so I have decided to give it a shot. I have sourced an engine for 600 euros; The only thing is I have no idea of how to remove and replace the engine. Can anyone please point me in the right direction. I would really appreciate any and all help.

Thanx Jason

type in RAVE C.D ion the search box (not googles but the sites search box) and download the file then burn it to disc. i use nero but any will do then just use the autoload on your comp and double click on the icon that will appear on your desktop to open it. p.m me if you have any probs opening it as it can look more complicated than it is. its not as good as a haynes as there arnt as many picks but will give you tech specs and break downs of components. or have a look on you tube as well as hippos got some good footage on there.

Sounds like the oil pump to me. Why not replace that it's easier than changing the engine it's like throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Hope this helps

If you do replace the engine its not a difficult job to do really just a case of disconnecting all the ancillaries, remove the bonnet, attach engine to a hoist, disconnect from gearbox, remove engine mounts and lift engine out.

If the history of the replacement engine is unknown, fit a new cambelt/tensioner while the engine is out and preferably the water pump as well :)

LR05HI7C4R i think?

I think changing a K-series is very easy, but i wouldnt wanna do it on ramps. For starters the ground is dirty!

On the upside if i did want to do one, with the help of Rave and Patience im sure anyone with even the slightest technical knowlege and an Engine Crane could do one :)

Thanx for the replies guys. Every bit is really helpfull. Saturday is my next attempt. I had already started by disconnecting the coolant tubing from the engine. Will kep u posted

Bought a 1.8 in the last month with a blown engine my youngest a mechanic took 2 days off last week and fitted a replacement. From what i saw it was all done on the floor of the garage he works at just using a engine crane.

My repacement engine before fitting i think it came from a rover car.

got fingers crossed it all goes well and pics all the way through should def warrant a sticky. i would think a lot of people would appreciate seeing it done bit by bit as i for one would like to know i could do it if i had to.

The head had been sorted and a new water pump and cambelt. We also took the thermostat in the hoses out so we replaced top and bottom hoses with earlier type. There is now only the thermostat in the rear of the block.
