Help: Replace Freelander 1.8 K series engine

With only 125 psi on the compression test, it's not going to run well, if at all!!
You need to double check the cam timing.
The fuel pump should pressurise the fuel rail, the engine won't suck it regardless of how you are getting it started.
I will get a photo of the timing on here.
I am sure i got it right.
So it is unlikely that it is the fuel pump or filter or a blockage in the fuel line.

A couple of photos will help. Fuel pump is easy to test. Take the flex line off the fuel rail and put it in a large neck bottle. Get a helper to switch on in the ignition. Fuel should flow into the bottle at a good rate. The fuel line is unlikely to be blocked.
I suspect the cam timing is out, this would explain the low compression.
I suspect

Looks like your cam pulleys are round the wrong way, inlet on exhaust and exhaust on inlet. ;)

Edit.
Don't look at pictures of cam pulleys when you're had to much beer!! Beer goggles make things look all wrong.
The pulleys in these pictures are correctly fitted.

I will take the bolts off tommorow and 100% make sure the timing is right.
I just went and checked it and the belt is tight and then loose when turned.
I assume that the tensioner is moving and the cam belt has slipped?
Thank you for posting the pics for reference Fanatic

Also when turning it was making a clicking noise when I turned the wheel reverse whilst in 4th. Is this a problem?

Sorry but this has to be a wind up,

If isn't
reset the cam timing and hope valves are not bent.

Right, this is a farce - where do you live? I'm sure someone local can take a look

Unfortunately it isn't a wind up. I had set the timing correct and tensioned it etc.

This has turned into a nightmare.

Again, where do you live, it is possible we may be able to ask Landy Zone International Rescue member to swing by and take a look.

I am in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex.
My Grandad skimmed the head and set the timing etc originally. He has done them before on k series as he had the same engine in his Rover.
He is an engineer I might mention so is quite read up on this sort of stuff, but even he has given up. I will give it a go one more time. If not then I think :violent: will be in order :D

did you use locking tool?
recheck cam roll pins and timing
you may have bent valves
if it ran with hgf then rings may be stuck- with correct timing half teaspoon of oil in each cyl and fast idle to get rings unstuck

a very polite pm to pressbrake and hamsterburg may get you a visit

Yes a locking tool was used.
I am expecting to have bent valves now if it doesnt start after I have set the timing correctly.
I will also put half a tea spoon of oil in the cylinders.
If all else fails I will contact one of the two people that you have suggested and I will supply them with all I can offer.
Thank you so much Fanatic. If you would like to pm me your address I will have packets of chocolate Hobnobs sent your way :D

Thank you for the offer of hobnobs, I would prefer any donation to a cancer charity or children's hospice or if you come to 10th year bash you can say hello.
