N I,,when it comes to motors, they are usually cheep for a reason, usually the owner cant afford to have them repaired , or its just uneconomical to keep throwing more money at them,, ok a new ird fitted by a dealer is going to be well £1500 i would guess, , but what else is waiting to be uncovered ?

not quite sure about the 75% rrp in 2001, we are in 2007 now and the freelander -petrols have a bad reputation, pick one off autotrader for £1300 quite easily , and that would be a runner,

sorry its a L series i have 2 petrol freelanders sitting here one i was going to convert to diesel but giving that idea up now the other h/g gone, but finding it harder and harder to make the time to convert, plus i have had the engine some time and working it out will cost me more then the £1000 when its done so was thinking buy this drop my ird in it,

it has tax 6 months mot just done, new starter, alternator, battery, exhuast and tyres. so with my ird total cost around £1300 on the road (£300 what i could get for s/h ird)

plus alot easier then converting

I have had mine from new, 2000

Doesnt bother me about the depreciation, means that people can get a cracking motor for silly money these days.

The dealers stick the arm in, equipped with a haynes and set of tools there is no reason why people shouldnt have a go at fixing the probs themselves

NI, totaly agree with you , if ppl are prepared to get their hands dirty and are capable there are some good bargins to be had,, but also nothing worse than an unreliable car costing lots of time and money to keep it on the road , you pays your money and makes your choice ,
