Hi new to this looking for some advice
I've got a 53 plate freelander has upgraded head gasket has started loosing water it doesn't overheat no water in oil or any gunk heating works fine no white smoke just want any advice before I pay for a new head gasket as this is what a garage had said head gasket failure thanks

look at your header tank has it got cracks in it if so replace and with new cap but I think they come with that also check around the inlet manifold as the gasket on there can leak .hope this helps

Thank you for advice will get this checked had the exhaust manifold replaced last year and the front heating pipe as this burst will check header tank

Garages love to say head gasket as they make loads of money when they do, and as the petrol Freelander has a bad reputation for blowing head gaskets (not always deserved) it is the first thing they blame. Try to find the leak yourself but if you can't then take it to a different garage. There are several possible causes for water leaks, these are a few I'm aware of.

Radiator hose (easy to check)

Water pump (hidden behind a plastic cover on the drivers side of the engine, it has a rubber O ring which can leak if damaged when the water pump is replaced)

Header tank (mine had cracks at the top spreading down from the lid.)

Inlet manifold gasket

Heater matrix

Get the car up to temp so the pressure builds in the system then start looking.

Thanks for all advice got car back didn't get head done car has stopped using water now but found slight leak by o rings thanks for all advice will be looking at getting them replaced
