Hi All.
I need to pick your collective brains as I am stumped, I have a 2003 1.8 Hippo and the 3 amigos every now and then pop up. I have checked and replaced the usual suspects ie brake light switch, G sensor, first gear switch on the gear box and throttle position sensor
I have checked the HDC switch and wiring, and the abs sensors which are ok.
However after doing all this the bloody lights still appear every now and then. I have attached 3 photos from my hawkeye showing the fault codes.

Any help you can give in decoding them would be very much appreciated.

George:confused:

Hi Nodge
Thanks for the reply, I on checking rave there is a can bus on the rear of the instrument panel so I will remove panel and check/clean and post results.
Many thanks
George

All the computers talk via the can bus. Try deleting the codes and see if they return. Also check the codes in all other computers to see if others have the same issue.

Hi Hippo
Thanks for the advice, I have another fault code reader which did not pick up the codes at all hence buying the Hawkeye, which I use as soon as the 3 amigo's raise their ugly little heads. I have cleared the codes in the past only for them to reappear. I'm thinking of taking the instrument cluster out and giving it a good clean with electrical contact cleaner.

Thanks again for the help
George

Hi all.
I took out the instrument cluster and gave the connections a good spray of contact cleaner, I also did the same with the multiplug on the abs modulator.

However when driving around today back came my 3 little friends and on checking on my Hawkeye the same fault codes were there. I now think it could be the modulator that is the problem, I happen to have a another pump/modulator that I can fit and looking in Haynes it looks like a easy job to do however, it says "If a new modulator has been fitted, Land Rover state that the system must be tested using their Testbook diagnostic equipment, to ensure that the system is functioning correctly. Is it possible to test the system with Hawkeye or must it be done with Testbook.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi all.
Further to my last post, today after finishing work I noticed that when I switched on the ignition my instrument cluster was dead, ie all gauges and e m l not working, the only warning lamps that were on was the handbrake and srs. After 3 ignition on/off's the cluster came to life and so far everything seems fine. I am sure its not the cables at the rear of the cluster as they were a pain to remove and I made sure that they were refitted correctly. On checking with the hawkeye the same fault codes appeared, and as I was thinking off changing the abs modulator I now think it might be wise to change the instrument cluster first. On fleabay I can pick one up for around £20 second hand but, would that a be wise move or would I be better off getting a new one as I am concerned about the speedo showing the correct mileage the car has done?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Check the ignition switch is passing full voltage.

Hi all.
Have not done anything yet due to illness in family but hope to have a go over the xmas holidays.
I hope you all a merry Christmas.
George:D

Hi Datatek
Good idea never gave the ignition switch a thought. Will test and get back to you all.
ps decided not to swop out instrument cluster, only the ABS pump/modulator.

Wishing you all a merry xmas.

Got round to changing the ABS pump, bleed the system only to find out that the K**b at Halfords has rounded the rear nearside bleed nipple so at the moment no brakes.:mad::mad:

Have bought x2 bleed nipples off e-bay but, in the mean time a mechanic my daughter knows is popping round to see if he can crack the nipple enough to bleed the brakes.

Update.
Both rear bleed nipples rounded by the K**b of a fitter at Halfords, have bought 2 wheel cylinders and car off road till Saturday. THANK YOU HALFORDS.

Yes tried that still wont budge, have gone for the easy option and replace wheel cylinders, also it will give me a chance to check/clean rear brakes.

Update
This weekend 2 new wheel cylinders fitted, rear brakes stripped, checked and cleaned and complete system flushed through with new brake fluid, time spent working on brakes 1 hour to replace ABS pump and 1 hour per side on the rear brakes. Thank you Halfords never ever will I be using them again.:D
