Hi Guys,

When I replaced the VCU a few weeks back it gave me an opportunity to test how much engine movement I had with no prop shaft to limit the movement.

I was surprised to see that there was a fair bit of movement around the gearbox mount (passenger side engine mount). I want to replace this item but seems like it costs over £200!

Have any of you guys done anything with this particular mount?

Its for an L series hippo and any ideas would be appreciated.

I did a search and found something where one chap had done something with a poly type material so if you are around?

Cheers!!

Hi mate, thanks for the reply.

It is not knocking as such but I have observed significant movement forward and backward which is coupled with vibration when driving in high gear / low revs.

I have already replaced the rear tie bar which has not made difference and I'm not sure the driver side mount would cause this.

However I will likely replace that mount anyway as it's only about £22

Maybe I should be doing this first based on price - good idea batman!

Have you seen my thread on engine mounts, the gearbox is a big bush! hydra/hydro filled, prise the gearbox with a long lever to show any movement.

I have materials, but not the time at the moment to fabricate a gearbox bush from scratch. No reason why I cant draft up a template, but it wont happen soon. It would have to be using the existing centre bar, which is oddly shaped.

£22 for a tie bar, thats not LR surely??

@ Northern Irelander

I have indeed seen that post, I was thinking something along those lines but have yet to source materials etc.

The Tie bar was about £30 for the LR part. I replaced that but it has not been any different to the one I took off which was seemingly in good condition anyway.

The mount that is £22 is the cone mount on the drivers side but its not genuine LR - I am thinking about giving it a go / doing it aswell anyway.

Cheers
