:lvvalentine:well on Friday the 13th I never usually do anything but the wife was pestering me to look at her car as she said she only just made it home last night so I did and we decided to change the plugs, as it was running a bit ruff we put three of the new plugs in the first one was really hard to get out the other 2 were easy the forth one Broke , and being the 1800 engine the plug is well down that long plug hole so this afternoon I have made a tool I hope tomorrow is going to do the job, it is a stud extractor welded onto a long 3/8ths socket bar and the other end I welded a nut I hope it is going to work on the 14th I am not going to touch it again today. DSC_0379.JPG I had one like this before but it was on a mini engine and you could get to that one.

I've seen that many times over the years. Good luck with your extended extractor tool.
If the threaded section comes out. Spin the engine over for a few seconds without a plug fitted. This will help eject any metal particles that my be in the cylinder.
Good luck.

hope u get on ok , nothing worse than snapping things in the head

don't know how I got away with it, but when I changed the glow plugs i warmed the engine up first and they all came out , couldn't believe me luck

but did see coppaslip round the plugs and think that's what saved the day

thanks GS I did it this morning ,with me if anything can go wrong it will I had to shorten the bar as it was not putting enough pressure on the bottom the bar was to long and started to twist a bit ,so did that and tried again and bingo it was out I always put the hoover down first to get anything out, then put a small magnet down, then spin it over
now the car is different again put the platinum plugs in as advised that they should be and it starts and runs beautiful.

Excellent news Teddy.
It was well worth waiting until today to do this. Just imagine what sort of mess could have developed if you had attempt it yesterday!
Platinum plugs are the way to go. You can leave them alone for 60K miles now. ;)

the last time she had a set of plugs in and it was a LR garage that did it I can not find the bill at the moment but I bet my wife paid the top rate and did not get the proper ones and according to the box they reduce emissions.

just to let you know the wife says that the car is running better than it has for years , just shows the right spark plugs does make a difference ,still can not believe LR garage put different plugs in than it should have.

we have another Friday 13th this week and then the next one is in November so that is 2 more days this year I am NOT I repeat Not doing anything on the Freelanders I just might nip around to a mates disco to see if anything needs doing LOL

they've got to be working on there fenders , again

or sharpening their pitchforks

:):):)

ps , wonder who i will be standing behind when we turn up at the lz event , in case they try and hook up the hippo and drag it into the wilderness
I wouldn't worry too much. You'd probably rip the rear cross member oft. They're only held in place by rust. :pound:
