small heat exchanger thing, water pipes and oil feed in and out, I assume this cools the oil, perhaps you can tell me if not?

Remove your big plastic cover and get a torch...check between inlet manifolds and you will probably see coolant gin the center of your "V" (there is a drain from V that comes out at rear right of engine behind water pump so can confuse the issue and point in wrong direcion)

If so can be a number of things and all a bastward... cracked thermostat housing most likely but could be inlet manifold gasket or any of the many pipes around there.

If its in that area you might as well get thermostat/pump/belts changed if motor is over 50k miles as is expensiv and will need doing anyway.

Doobreydog, Many thanks for the advice, I have located the leak, it is coming from the thermostat, looks like it is leking where the stat connects to the water pump pipe and is probably just the O-ring, but Landrover only supply the thermostat complete with seals, ah well, at least I dan set about fixing the job now I have found the source.
