Freelander suspension noise

The N/S front suspension on my TD4 is squeaking and banging. To date I have replaced the following:

Anti rollbar bushes
Anti rollbar drop links
Rear diff mounts (all three for good measure)
Exhaust mounting rubbers

I assume we are now looking at the wishbone and it's bushes. How difficultis it to replace bushes etc.? Does anyone have any diagrams on what is required?

Am I looking in the right direction for this sort of problem?

What car, what year, what mileage?

Check your lower ball joint and your track rod end. If the boots split on either then its got dirt in and thats grinding it away.

Replacement is easy and if you're looking in the Haynes manual the you don't need to release the hub nut to get the lower joint off, just be creative with a spanner.

Sounds like the bushes to me. It took me three goes to persuade my garage to change them (under warranty), even though there is a LR Technical Bulletin describing the fault. It also details the procedure for setting the bracket holding the rear bush.

Thanks for that. Does anyone have a copy of the LR technical bulletin as I gathe that the brackets need to be tightened down in a particular way?

Still reacon its the ball joints. Had the same problem on my 2000 L series. Random noise (Creaking and grinding) on steering operation and suspension articulation. Replaced the entire wishbone and then discovered the track rod end was knackered as well. The lower bushes were fine after 80K. All is well now.

Does anyone know of a good place to source the parts as I gather there are a lot of dodgy ones on the market

Depends if you want genuine parts as this would obviously be a LR dealer. With something like the suspension that is somewhat instrumental to your safety do you want to take a chance?

Update:

It turns out that the rear bush was rusted onto the wishbone. This meant that the rubber bush was trying to move in its housing and was grabbing. The result was that the suspension was for all intents and purposes seized solid. I replaced the wishbone and bushes, with genuine LR parts, and all is fine now.
