Freelander soft top

I bought one last year from Ebay and got it in perfect condition with bag zips working etc no red key for the grand total of £35.00!! The key set me back less than a £5 from LR.

Dont get sucked into the bidding war, I've seen a full unit go for £30.00.

The reason why they always come up on Ebay is they are a bit of a faff as you have to remove the windows when folding up for use in the sun, me I'll sell mine with the car when I change it.

Alot of the Rain/Shower covers go for a higher price than the soft top.

Hi
Everything you say is right but I've got two. One's brand new and on the car. The other one's got cracked plastic windows.

I just need the windows so that I can flog it. Thanks anyway because I had no idea what the windows are worth.

Now I won't spend £30 to sell the whole thing for 40.

Hi
Is there any chance that you found a complete soft top and now have two spare side windows? I've got a soft top without the windows and I can use them if you want to sell them.
Thanks
Dtwo

My side windows were lost, I would have sent them! Lost when my VW was towed while I was out of town - and it had the windows inside.
Ended up just taking it as a loss since the car was pretty beatup with a month of storage fees.

Drove from seattle to miami. Great trip!!! at one point we went thru a midwest blizzard at minus 30 degrees fahrenheit! freelander was amazing for the crosscountry trip! I like the glovebox footrest.
Still looking for a soft top was thinking about buliding one from old powerkites.
Transmission is starting to hang between 1st and 2nd gear =/ guess its time to change transmission fluid again

hi there.
im new here and am picking up my freelander on saturday. i am looking for a soft top for mine also. does anyone know if there is a pattern anywhere to download as i am sure we could produce these easily at our works.

I just got a used soft top from ebay and I was trying to find fitting instructions. Seems the GreenOval link does not work anymore.
I could not find install instructions but with 2 friends help we got it figured out.

Only major concern is that I dont know what the red key is for. Soft Top seems installed perfectly...

I don't think the super-international link worked zoolander!!! TOPIx requested my country then forgot why it asked the question. doh. cheers.
Curently l'm learning the intricate workings of the ****lander's soft-top. Luckily I haven't done anything wrong yet. What is the red key?
I'll have a beginner's guide to the ****lander's soft-top soon, in case there are any mufflanders out there looking for a beginners installation guide. I love this top by the way, the car also is great. I had an amazing time riding thru miami with the top-off in december, toward tasty Brazilian lady's lasagna while listening to some funky house-radio.com beats on live stream from amsterdam. It was a good first ride thru fl. soon we'll go all the way up the east coast...

The soft top makes me very happy but it did not improve my sexyskills unfortunately. Booze and properexercise bloodflow helps more. She says skills were fine but I am looking for an all-encompassing soft-top. I will include soft-top reformation adjustments in the installation guide.

You might strike lucky on fleabay, but if the vital bits are missing, the soft top is not fit for purpose!! as the individual items can not be purchased separately.

some dodgy zippers and hazey looking windows there in that last link

wouldnt know tbh oly wragg top ive had was mi spitfire..

Most conventional rag tops, have a quick unclip and drop frame

The FL1 has this, but..... to put the soft top down, the windows have to be unzipped and removed from the trim and rear quarter panel.

They slide out along the join, then you have to store them in the window sleeves provided.

The hood folds down and two velcro straps and poppers are used to pack the side parts in.

Not to mention the hood fixtures themselves - bayonet fittings either side of the rear door, plus the two clips for the roof (the red key is needed to tighten these, or suitable utility type key)

It takes a couple of minutes to unfold and store the windows, I reckon a lot of owners lose their patience with this, ending up pulling and hauling, finally slinging the whole lot into the boot and not carefully storing them away.

If you source a soft top, that had a careful owner then nothing to worry about.

You don't get much change out of a grand for a new soft top, probably long since discontinued from the supplier.

Even when they were readily available, any individual component of the soft top could not be purchased separately :frown:

LANDROVER FREELANDER SOFT TOP ROOF IMMACULATE WITH RED KEY | eBay

Thanks

LOL I have a soft top that I'm selling, not looking to buy!!!

I was merely giving pointers to those who happen to read this thread and discover that the cheaper items on ebay are cheap for a reason, usually vital bits missing, hazey windows, ripped zips etc
