Hi All,

Yesterday when i went to start my freelander i looked in the mirror and saw that my rear window was open, i thought that i might have pressed the key fob by accident so i didnt think anything of it.

today while working on the freelander i noticed it was down again, so i tried closing the window using the key in the lock. the window goes up fully and then a buzz emits from the dash and the window lowers itself back down. I tried both using the key switch on the door and the console switch, the same thing happens.

The only way i got it to stay shut was by locking the car, unlocking then using the switch inside the car to shut it. Then sometimes when i get back in the car and turn on the egnition it opens itself again ???


Weired problem ?

Could this be caused by a flat battery in the key fob ? or does the rear window need re-setting ?

i hear there is a way to test the functions like windows by testing the ccu ?


any ideas ?

could well be.

its a 5 door, so no probs from sensors and stuff from hard top.

How would i go around checking if the sensor is working properly, i suppose i could give the whole door lock mec a clean and wd40 to loosen any sticky contacs ?

it seems when i turn on my headlights now the rear window then opens by its self ???

I have HID lights would this somehow interfear ?

It seems to be sensing low battery volts. Check the battery cable connections at both battery end and alternator and earth ends.

Hi,

I think you may be correct.

I have noticed the engine start being slaggish over the last couple of days and iv been told that if the battery is low on the l series they dont start very well.

is that a safety feature then, the window opens when its flat ?
is that what the one beeep noise is "low battery" ?

The rear window drops when you connect the battery. If you have a loose battery connection, this will explain why the windows has dropped.
 
it Could well be, but its weired it only does it when i put on the headlights, it doesnt do it when i turn on the egnition or anything else that draws power. Also do you know what the error beep im getting means ?

When i raise the window, just as it closes it gives a beep and then the window lowers itself again. it seems like its saying its not calibrated or something ?

I think it must be to do with calibration. i will re-calibrate tomorrow and see if that sorts it. this thread seems to be just my problem:

Problem -

TAIL DOOR GLASS OPENS AUTOMATICALLY IMMEDIATELY AFTER CLOSING

Cause

Tail door glass calibration incorrectly set within the Central Control Unit (CCU).

Action

Where a complaint of the above is confirmed, follow the calibration procedure below to reset the tail door glass.

Calibration procedure

1. Disconnect the battery earth lead. Refer to Workshop Manual, General Information, Electrical Precautions, Battery disconnection.

NOTE: Allow ten seconds to elapse between disconnection and connection to erase the stored calibration value.

2. Connect the battery earth lead.

NOTE: The tail door glass will drop approximately 2 seconds after the battery has been connected.

3. Start engine.

4. Ensure that all electrical loads, i.e. lights, heater etc. are turned off.

5. Increase the engine speed to 1500 rev/min for 10 seconds, after 10 seconds and whilst maintaining 1500 rev/min, carry out the following operations:

Close the tail door glass to calibrate the CCU.

Fully open the tail door glass.

Fully close the tail door glass.

If the tail door glass remains closed the calibration procedure is complete, refer to step 6.

If the tail door glass opens then repeat the calibration procedure from step 1.

6. Allow engine to idle then switch off engine."
 
hi my rear heater or wiper wont work my window also goes up and straight back down so i have to use key hold it up to keep it closed can any one help its 3 door 2ltr diesel 2000 model thanks
ive just done calibration as suggested and all is fine many thanks so my friendly garage lyed and charged me 45 pound and said i needed new sensor thanks guys am so happy

wow i have had my landy ingarage he charged me 45 pound and said i needed new unit ive just done recalbration and everything working window heater and wiper thanks for info i am gona ring garage and ask him if he recalibrated hahaha he ripped me wright off

Hi

I've tried the above, & the simpler way as in the handbook, but still the window only drops a fraction rather than the required amount. I can just open the door but have to make sure the glass goes under the top trim before closing the door fully. When opening the door catch requires 2 pulls/triggers to fully release it.

All other operations are fine but 1 of the remotes doesn't work, I tried this yesterday & later on the fault appeared??? I tried this 'faulty' remote again today, it 'clicked' the c/locking & suddenly the rear window fully opened....then nothing!? The good remote & all the other window operations are now still working, it's just the drop down isn't enough.

Could it be the micro switch in the handle or a sticking door catch mechanism?

EDIT: I've sprayed WD40 into the door catch & the switch seems to 'click' the door catch each time I squeeze the handle.

Any ideas appreciated.

Didn't want to start another thread, but with the weather been nice, I dropped the rear window on the way home and opened another to deal with the fumes, but after about 10 mins I noticed the window was shut.

So, lowered it again, and once again after 10-15 mins, it had closed.

Third time, it'd been down maybe 5 mins and I caught sight of it closing.

Any suggestions?

My tailgate window is opposite. Won't go down no matter what. Having to close door with top of glass outside the lip. Any clues guys?

Open the door ,remove the door card ,open the nuts that clamp the glass in place. Then remove the glass and then the window regulator . you dhould see which cable is broken .You could do a diy job using bicycle brake cable and solder or buy a cable set off ebay lots of sellers .

Keep note of where the cables enter the motor mechanism . Its easy enough .

Hi Guys....Have searched the forum and this seems to be the most comprehensive thread on here regarding tailgate window problems.
The tailgate window was working fine until a couple of days ago and doing what it should. The Daughter, who is not familiar with opening the tailgate, operated the handle, the window dropped as it should but she pulled at the handle without pressing the trigger and the handle came away from it's base.The window would not go up when the door was closed unless I turned the key on the handle or operated the switch on the dash. I am getting the bleeps signifying the window is not calibrated. Disconnected the battery as per the write up on here but the window does not drop on reconnection. The window will rise & fall when operating the dash switch but only about 30mm at a time and the bleeps are sounding at every press of the switch.
I have fitted a new handle today and whilst I was at it, the regulator was removed and checked-all looks fine, I also checked the glass preload and that is fine. There are no mechanical restrictions with the regulator or glass.
The glass still drops when operating the handle to open the door but will not return when the door is closed unless I turn the key or operate the switch which, due to the bleeps is saying the window regulator has lost the plot and needs calibrating....which I cannot do. :frusty:

(The CDL and remote keyfobs are working fine)

Anyone have any ideas ?????

Could it be a fault in the regulator motor, possibly not having enough torque to move the window in one go ????
I am going down to the Midlands in a couple of days and may pick one up from Bedworth.
