Freelander Electric Window Repair Kit - Cheap solution to problem which works!!
My electric window tension wires recently went on my Freebie. Wanting to save a fortune, I purchased a repair kit from shebay for £20 (seller ecrofting). Was rather dubious about this, but after a few hours of hard work, sweat, tears, damaged nail varnish and broken nails, my electric window mechanism was repaired and fitted (of course with help from hubby). Works like a dream, and saved me a signficant amount of money.......so would deffo recommend this repair kit, as electric windows are always breaking, and we need all our pennies to keep Freebies on the road!

Apparently there was someone on here who fixed his window using a bicycle brake cable, next time I'm passing my council amenity site I might strip a cable from dozens of scrap bikes to choose from, thus, saving me the £20
The glue in them kits doesn't do exactly what it says on the tin............ Problems have been reported with the adhesive coming undone.

2001 TDi window winders - that silly white carriage thing that pushes the window up / down on mine broke, the wires pulled out then it really wasn't easily possible to fix - new one in Oz about $350. I keep a couple of doorstops in the car just in case the winders break .....

hee hee, good idea, hope it works David, doorstops a lot cheaper than winders. Try ebay UK, as many sellers often list damaged window mechanisms so you may pick up the part relatively cheap. Good luck, Clare

Don't always work. Good quality cable, hit and miss with glue. One door fixed and still fixed, other only lasted day or so and adhesive gave up ghost. Plastic cable guides broke as well. New regulator please....

Re: Freelander Electric Window Repair Kit - Cheap solution to problem which works!!
I've fixed mine using stainless steel bike brake lines. £1 summat from halfords. Measure length you need from broken bits you'ver taken off.
need to file or grind down the nipple to fit in one end. Then I simply make a mark (using a pen ) on the cable where the other nipple should go. fit all the bits on the cable that it needs to go through.
As I don't have another nipple I use a vice to hold the cable. Then using a pair of pliers I simple tie a knot in the cable. Its takes a bit of manovering to get the knot in the correct place. Which you have to do before the final pull tight. Then cut off the excess and fit.
I have repaired the rear window, the passenger front and rear windows, using this method and they are still working fine. I am shortly going to do the rear drivers side. Will take pitures of procedure when I do it.
