Freelander brake disc life

I fitted new front discs/pads to my friend's 2005 Freelander 1.8 and after 15,000 miles they appear to be worn out....the discs are ridged and the pads are coming to the end of their life. Is this about right? They do have a fairly large caravan which they have towed about 700 miles in total.

caravan will mean ya go thru pads quicker.15 k int to the shops and back tho is it?

15k sounds pretty good to me for a tow car & discs will wear. Check up your manual for the minimum thickness & measure to see how good they are. Remember to sand down the outer wear lip if your using a vernier for measuring.

700 miles is about Cornwall and back for me and i'd be well ****ed off if that was all i could get from front discs and pads when towing. If the caravan brakes are working it won't put much extra effort on the towcar brakes. I think you need to be looking for some other reason for the excessive wear.

Ere mate his got 15k on em.Not bad seeing as they only cost bout 40 quid to replace!Dont think over a years worth of average milage is excessive wear.

All depends on the driving style.

I have covered 26,000 on my pads. They were by no means new when i bought the vehicle, but as I hardly need to touch the brakes on my daily commute they seem to be lasting a long time. I have at least 5mm left on the front pads, so may get another 8 - 10,000 miles from them.

Towing will wear pads more rapidly due to extra weight when braking.

Thanks for the replies. My friend was questioning the lifespan of the parts and I just wanted a second opinion. I get about 20k out of my van before discs/pads are needed. His Freelander is the petrol one, it may be that the diesel is better due to the extra engine braking. (meaning the brakes are used less) Also as mentioned it depends on how you drive.
