hi all im on the verge of getting a freelander van
its a 2004 looks good for 3000 plus vat
this is my first landrover, is there anything i should look out for?
one thing ive noticed is it doesnt have the roll bar bits. and has a 7inch metal patch on the top of the roof???
was told it was owned by bt originaly.

For £3k I assume it is a TD4? I'd stay clear of the petrols due to the fact that they're very prone to head gasket failure.

Also, the bars on the roof are not roll bars, although I assume they will help should you roll it over. They're actually mounts for roof racks etc. They look a bit different on the 3 door version because of the pillars.

Thanks for the reply mate
Hopefully be picking it up tomorrow. Just sorted the insurance out (£600)!! With full ncb!!
Oh well I've been looking on here about synergy 2 and about changing the oil.
The synergy sounds bloody good.
Not sure if I should wait and see what mpg I get without it first.
Yes it's a td4. A mate is a mechanic who works at a landrover garage, so he warned me about the petrol.
Can't wait to pick it up.

Is your policy active or just on standby? If just on standby, you may wanna try giving Adrian Flux a ring. They can provide proper insurance for 4x4s. Most insurance companies do not provide 4x4s insurance with off road or green laning cover. Adrian Flux was also the cheapest for me, by far. http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/landrover/

I paid just under £400 to insure my TD4. I'm in my mid 20s and had 4 years NCB at the time.

When you go there tomorrow, check to make sure the VCU is there along with the prop shaft. Sometimes people remove them when they play up instead of replacing them. (they're costly) If removed, it effectively means that the car is 2 wheel drive instead of 4x4.

The VCU is black in colour and is next to your exhaust middle box. (to the left of the red dot)

Hopefully your exhaust won't look like mine though.

As your mate is a Land Rover mechanic, might be a good idea to get him to check it over before you collect it.

Thanks rich
The policy won't start till I pick it up. It is with falmers union.
They were bloody cheep last time I looked. But not that great this time so I'll give your bloke a go first. Yours is a
great price. I'm 40 with 4yrs ncb on my last van alone.
And the fact it includes off roading too, makes it very
attractive. The main reason I am getting one is that I'm fed up with driving a van. But my mate (the mechanic) is in to that and has invited me to go with (would be rude not to eh ;-). )
He has been down to look at it and said it needed something done to it, to do with the clutch fluid leaking, but said it would only cost £100 at most.
The bloke had it up for £4000 originally
So to get it for 3000 seams quite good.
It's a 2004 face lift version with 94 on the clock.
The back interior is a bit rough but hopefully a trip to the beakers for some trims is on the cards.
I'll ask him about the vcu, but he did drive it and looked under it so I would be supprised if he missed it.
What's your take on the synergy 2 ?
