Hi guys/gals.....Have done a search but have not seen anything that jumps out as a good indication.
A friend of mine is looking at buying either a FL1 TD4 or the later FL2, 2.2 diesel with manual transmission and without engine/fuelling mods or chipping.
He has been checking for realistic fuel consumption figures for "Normal" driving. He accepts that a SUV is a completely different animal to the diesel Jag that he has owned for the past 7 years or so which gives him around 50 mpg on a run and also is aware that the FL is no sports car !!
My '02 TD4 does a minimum of 35mpg (Synergy fitted) on mainly rural roads which are twisty and hilly in places and often does just over 40 mpg on decent runs down to the Midlands. Whilst I am not a dawdler or drive with my foot down to the floor etc. I am more than happy with the fuel consumption.
Can you post your findings please for both versions of the Hippo.

Cheers folks :)

Doing mainly short journeys to work n back (couple of miles each way), and longer trips often have our caravan on tow - I'm getting 37-38 mpg under those conditions. Car is in standard trim, except for tyres - 205/75-15 Grabber AT2 instead of 195/80-15's. It is a 2001 TD4

Bearing in mind I have the TD4 auto my overall average is 31mpg. I get up to about 36mpg on s run. This is with oversize 225/65R17 tyres, which compared to normal ones reduces range by about 6% or so, which is about 2mpg and the Grabber AT tyres are not great for economy either and also cost about 2mpg. So, on road tyres and correct size I would be getting about 40mpg on a run.

My problem is very short journeys in s heavily congested area.

Which is why I'm driving a Leaf at the moment!!!

Now that is fast but the range isn't great. I recon about 80 miles on a full charge. I have it for a couple more days. I'm considering buying one.

My overall average since September 2012 is 38.2

Since I changed the thermostat I've consistently been getting 40+

My daily journey is 25 miles each way on a mixture of local roads and dual carriageway

Thanks for all he inputGuys....appreciated !! :clap2:

He has glanced through the forum regarding possible problems relating to Mk. 1 & 2 Hippo's, e.g. IRD's,VCU's/Haldex and diff's etc. and is still very interested in becoming a Hippo owner, probably a late FL2-something along the lines of an HSE.

just to say I think my roof rack and lights make my fuel consumption high

:behindsofa:

Roof rack definately increases the fuel consumption irregardless of how "Streamlined" the car is .The roof side rails won't make much difference and depending where the fog/driving lamps are sited (Roof or bumper/grille) they should have little effect-roof mounted would create the highest difference.
Like all LR "Box" type bodies, they ain't the most aerodynamic of shapes !!!:D

I have a 52 plate TD4 auto and use it every day long and short trips, town and country. \I average 6.5 to 7 miles per litre, 30 to 33 a gallon, never more, what am I doing wrong.

My auto does from 25 around South London on short start start journeys up to a recorded 40+ on a long motorway journey.

The auto average according to LR is 32.5mpg, so you are about right.

Tyres, the stuff you carry, the condition of the engine and transmission, your right foot, the length of journey amongst others all affect mpg.
