Hi

i wonder if anyone can help. I have a 2000 (W) Freelander 1 XEDi model. It's run okay up to this morning when I went to start the engine - the engine would turn, but wouldn't fire and there is a clicking noise. I had trouble years ago with a faulty starter motor solenoid but when it went last time there was just the ticking and no turn over of the engine. Can anyone advise - is it the same problem?

Many thanks
Helena

hi

sounds like the clicking could indeed be ur solenoid , is it a fast clicking sound

have u first checked the battery is fully charged, leads on ok at the battery and starter motor and are making a good contact and not come loose in any way

plus there is an extensive amount of info through the search button that may also be of use to u

Yes, it is a very fast clicking and the engine almost turns over - I parked it up last night with no problems at all.

My husband has checked all of the terminal on the battery (which is charged) and on the starter motor, but it just clicks.

I'll get one ordered later.

i think u can get repair kits for them but depends on whether u wish to replace the entire starter motor or not

good luck in what ever u decide

Worth checking the starter relay.

it doesn't seem to be any trouble with the starter since it is turning the engine, it might be the battery that is going flat so it isn't making it turn fast enough to start.
might be an air lock in the fuel line, is fuel getting to injector 1? have you tried priming it?

Battery first point to check. If it really is charged I would be looking at an earthing fault. Try connecting a single earth jump lead from the negative terminal if the battery to the engine block.

Try this and report back please!
