Hey all.
tnx for a great forum.
I have an issue with an 2000 ver. freelander 1.
I have tried a lot but nothing seems to work.
Immobiliser shuts engine down. I can open the car, remotely. I can turn key, all lights are on,but turn key and it's dead(kills all the lights when i try,)
BUT when I'm IN the car I can lock car with remote, turn key and car runs fine.... IF I wasent for the horn going of in alarm mode.. kind of ...unhandy driving around town with your horn ... screaming I stole my own car..LOL
any suggestions. Pls don't write get a vw golf :):)

It's probably just the battery in the fob.

When the immobiliser won't start the engine do you get a light lit on the dash - the one that blinks normally when the engine's off?

You can try getting in the car and pressing the unlock button with the fob inside - they try - or simply just replace the battery.

I'm assuming you have the earlier pickup from the fob - later ones are from the key.

Hey .....thx but I have tried that. brand new battery. The fob works. I can unlock the car, and when Im IN the car I can use it to unlock the immobiliser and the car runs with the horn sounding:)
Fob: open car- Key: ignition on - turn key: no start.(all dies out). (All light are as they are supposed to be. The small red lamp as you named is not blinking, when I try to start the car)
I have also tried to unplug the car battery and put it back on.
Tnx for replies:)

will it work to manually - recode the fob? i havent got the code - does anyone know where to get it? ;-)

Just did. Didn't work. Damn.. nice one anywaanyway.
But I thought about nicking the fuse from the horn. It could work for a while or not safe:)

Sounds as if the passive coil around the steering column lock isn't working.

What triggered this fault to happen? Have you had any work done recently which may have contributed to this issue?

sry i never came back- life suddenly went sideways - back again thx for the help! ;-) (better late then never ;-) )
