Hi,

was driving home from work on Friday and went to put my window down, it doesn't move and all I can hear is a clicking sound coming from within the door when I press the button.

Any ideas?

thanks

If its just a click I would say whole reg/motor, if its a motor "trying" sound but no movement, could be a snapped cable. Ive just replaced cable on passenger, £10 and three hours using youtube vid above....its quite easy with just 1 tricky bit trying to get the right tension on the cable which isn't shown in the vid very well IMO.

You can get the whole reg 2nd hand for £30 - £40 which is quicker and easier.

First off, have a look ...

speculation will drive you crazy and you will have to wait while you 'order' a part, even from eBlag ... then you can plan your attack or find a nice independent garage to fit the bit you don't want to do ... :)

could be just the cable gone, i repaired mine with a bicycle brake cable, easy fix

Don't think its the cable, theres nothing happening inside the door apart from a click when i press the window button. I'll let you know the outcome at the weekend when i take the car apart

Bit of an update:

I took the door apart and got the window mechanism out of the door.

I then took the motor unit apart and found that the worm gear (which is attached to the motor) has completely worn the main gear (the one which moves the cables).

Sorry I didn't take any pics, however, now that I know what the problem is I will fix it as soon as I can and will post some pics on here.

Thanks for the help guys.

That's what I thought, but I can't seem to get hold of the gear/cog that I need.

It's a shame they used a metal worm gear on a plastic cog, this would never happen if they used a metal cog too!
