Just a quickie...

My freelander engine was fully rebuilt in summer 2006. I have covered 12,000 since the rebuild. I changed the engine oil and filter after the first 6,000 and now can't decide whether to change every further 6,000 or 12,000 miles.

What do you guys think?? Is it overkill to change so regularly?? I'm using good quality oil (ie Castrol)

Would you change at 6K if it was your vehicle??

Regards

Steve

if it was mine id sell it and buy a diesel?,but seriously if your using a good quality oil the recomended service interval is 12k when new(after the first 6k) so as its a rebuilt unit treat it as such.12k or 12 months wich ever is sooner, and good luck and many happy trouble free miles with your k series, have you put on the thermostat and pipe work modification?

If it was mine and I was doing the oil changes myself then I would do it every 6000 miles - especially if I was going to keep it
I mean, what's a filter and some oil going to cost ? - £30 ? - and have you ever seen the state of oil drained at 12,000 miles
Just remember oil's cheaper than metal and it has already had a rebuilt engine....................................
I have ran V8's for years and changed the oil and filter every 3000 miles without fail and NEVER had a problem with any engine - coincidence ?
- I don't think so

Thanks guys - i will change every 6K as the cost is not a big issue. I do all my servicing and repairs myself anyway.

I have not put the later type thermostat in. (I have the plastic jobbie at the rear of the engine). I did fit the later multi layer head gasket and stronger oil rail. Temperature even in traffic does not fluctuate - stays at 9:00 all day long!!

Regards,

Steve
