Morning Guys ,

Central locking on the old FreeLander 1 has started to play up. Whilst driving to work this morning the central locking started to lock & unlock itself . Once i parked up locked the doors it was fine.

Now i also have the problem of getting the back door open on the drivers side. Cant open from the Outside but can from the inside, once its opened from the inside i can then open from the outside no problem but once i have locked the doors its back to square 1.

Can anyone please shed some light on this or what i need to look for or even parts i require with part numbers.

Cheers

I once had a similar problem when rodents got into the car and nibbled the wires. As well as the random (un)locking while driving, the car started locking all the doors when I adjusted the mirrors. The moral of this story is always clean your car after carrying barley in the back!

Wires can also be damaged or bared by repeated movement, especially if a wiring bundle gets caught behind something it shouldn't.

The cure consists of tracing where each wire is either broken or (more likely) stripped & shorting, and replacing the wire or covering it with self-amalgamating tape. Relatively cheap job but awkward to get at. A decent wiring diagram should help you decide where to stick a multimeter to track down the offending section of wire, or if you don't mind opening up all the doors and trim you could try tracing the wires by hand to look for damage - but that would miss any small breaks or dodgy connections.

In my case, it happened on an old Suzuki which was given a year to live, so once the more annoying symptoms were sorted I didn't bother fixing the central locking (all 3 doors had key locks).

Morning Folks,
When I lock the doors internally using either the driver’s side / passenger buttons they will lock & unlock now I noticed on Saturday I locked the doors and the rear passenger door never locked and the locking and unlocking of doors stopped .
Now when I unlock the doors you can’t open this door from outside only from inside. Once I have unlocked this once the door will open from the outside until I lock the vehicle up and unlock again the issue starts.
Now what could this be and is there any way of disabling the rear door central locking just to see if that is the issue or not so I can rule this out.

The central locking "locks" are all controlled by the drivers door "lock". From what you are saying the rear door slave unit is on its way out. This is the cheaper unit so replace it first. If the fault carries on then you will have to replace the master unit in the drivers door, more expensive.
A word to the wise. Buy new units, not second hand off fleabay. They don't last. I learnt the hard way.

Mines a 3 door, so different to yours. Most 4x4 dealers sell them. They are generally referred to as door latches.
As for fitting, its quite easy but fiddly. 3 bolts hold the latches on,1 wiring loom and a metal lever hooks in for the lock. More a feel than see, as its inside the metal part of the door.
Takes about half an hour per latch.
