I have a 04 freelander i drove it 10yrds, switch the engine off but left the key in, got out shut the door heard a click and all the doors locked, has anyone had the same problem and why did it happen. and what can i do to repair it. many thanks

Hi,

When I first got my Landrover Freelander in 2009 I took it for its mot and the guy at the garage did exactly the same thing.

I was too far from home home to get the spare key.

So in the end using a large screw driver wrapped in a towel we prized the door open slighlty at the top of the drivers door, just enough to slide some coat hanger type of wire in. with the end of the wire bent and slightly curved this was used to pull the internal door handle on the drivers side and hey presto the door opened.

we tried poking the locking switch inside on the dashboard and tried turning the keys which were still in the ignition. but this was the only way e could do it, but be warned if you press too hard on the scredriver or dont use a towel or cloth between the screwdriver and contact with the door you can damage the bodywork.

Thanks for your reply, I had no access to tools,
And I was 20 miles from home, but luckily my mate
Phoned the AA and they came within 45mins,
I though the central locking didn't work if the keys
Are in.?
