CB Radio question

Hi people

Was just wondering if anyone bothers fitting CB radios to their FL and what they use them for

I've got a PMR radio in my freelander (like CB, just a different band/freq - instead of 27MHZ, i'm using around 169MHZ) got one in my car, and because i work in radio comms got all my mates one too. There very handy when travelling together, and even more handy when greenlaneing. Ideal for letting people in front know i'm stuck (this happens alot in a freelander and your friends drive defenders. lol)

If you are going on an organised trip i.e. Sahara, or Croatia it will be a lot cheaper to keep in touch with the other members, rather than mobile phones.
They can take the mick when you get stopped for speeding by the local police, and the misses gives a running commentary. Very useful when negotiating traffic in cities as a group.
Back home - useless, the airwaves tend to be full of swearing, and aimless chatter by people who seem to know each other well and don't want others joining in.

got one in mine, used it a few times, but generally the airwaves are just a dead barren wasteland now, no-one really seems to use them.

unless your out in a group, then it's quite a good laugh.

Fitted one in mine and was going to use it greenlaning as my bro-in-law has one in his 90... but then his broke.

A few of my mates over here in Cork have got them on their Levins, Golfs, Supras and Scoobs etc. Tis common for the youth to have them over here.

Could have a laugh winding up some old codgers talking about their old days but generally unless your in a group you don't get a lot on the airwaves. You might get a few truckers to talk to on the motorways.

Weirdest thing i've picked up over here is the fooking christians playing recordings of preachings or some rubbish over them???

Anyway, i bought a really cool aerial bracket off a guy called Eddie in stoke on trent who i found off ebay. He makes them himself and they fit to the spare wheel bracket, looks the dog dangleys once fitted.

As for the unit i cut a hole out of the back of the drivers side glove box, and slotted it in there with the power cable going behind the dash to the cigarette lighter. Also cut a small hole in the glove box door for the microphone cable to come through and my microphone sits just under my stereo.

Only had my FL about 3 weeks and already fitted sidesteps, mud flaps, and now im looking at cb radios.......me misses will kill me lol

was going to fit mine in the flat tray in the dash above the radio, till I got to thinking about the scallies seeing it and breaking in just to take it.

then as I realised that it wouldn't be in use that often I had a rethink and mounted it on the bulkhead between the front seats, aerial on a mag mount which I can pop out through the sun roof as needed. also save buggering about when I go in restricted height loading bays / car parks.

It's funny in all the underground / multi storey car parks in and around Cork. All you can hear is the CB aerial twanging on the roof and lights lol and everyone looking around. It's ok though since my aerial is sprung.

Oh, and i'll get some pics over the weekend, was a tad too dark once i'd gotten out of the office.

CB Radios - Vehicle - - : Intek M-100 Plus

was thinking of asking santa (the misses) for one and get me father in law one to. I wanna minimise damage to the inside of the car.

I've got the midland 98 myself, very good unit for the price.

Sorry guys i didn't manage to get any photos over the weekend as i left my lappy charger in the office :doh:

will post some up soon though. The driver side glove box was the perfect place for mine.
