Hello,

The left rear diff silent block (or is this what is named "mount"?) just broke (with a big sound) on my freelander 1 2.0 di, please advise me about the possible cause and I also want to know if I can drive my car like that. I already had to drive back home (about 40 kms of windy road).
I had them changed 2 years ago, and the center had to be replaced again after just 6 months, maybe the parts are not good quality ones.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Many thanks for your reply. Yesterday after going back home, it smelled somewhat "burnt" down there, so I am not sure whether I should ask for the garage to take my car on its truck, I am about 10 kms away from the garage.

I wanted to order the part from Land Rover (in Nice, France, this is the closest from where I live) but they ask for over 100 euros for that so its seems really expensive just for the part, while on britishparts, is sells at 15 £ : Mount Differential - KHC500090 | Freelander | Land Rover | British Parts UK.
Do you think this price is fair? 2 years ago, they had supplied the center silent block for 1/4 that price. That's a huge difference. They say it's because the part is different from the center silent block but it seems wrong to me.

Do you have any clue as what could cause those silent blocks to repeatedly wear out so fast?

Thank you again and please don't be too severe with my English !

So order it from the UK and get it sent to France by mail.

it will only add a few euros to the price

Well, I found out that the expensive part is a genuine Land Rover part, while the cheaper one is a whatever brand one. Given that this the second cheap one I have to replace after only 6 month and 2 years of use, I am tempted by a genuine part. Or are they of the same quality?

Thank you and have a good day.

Thank you :), I will do that then, but that's really expensive for such a small part !.

Have a nice week-end.

Presumably it is the bush which has failed, rather than the casting itself. If this is the case, then could you source a polybush to replace the broken rubber one ??

Good idea, but I'd need to have the car lifted and examined. Won't be before May 6, so that leaves me some time to think about it!
Thank you for the advice.

Hello again and thanks to all of you for your suggestions.

Is it this polybush kit I should buy?

DC7102 - Freelander 1 Poly Bush Kit In Black By Britpart | LR Parts

Or this more expensive kit :
GAL107 - Freelander 1 Poly Bush Kit In Polybush Dynamic | LR Parts

or these two sets (much more expensive, from Polybush full vehicle sets Page 3 ) :

Polybush set for Freelander Ref: ZZPOLYBUSHSET69
£189.97 Including VAT
Full kit of bushes covering anti-roll bar, radius arms, lower link, front and rear wishbones.
Only available in the one set which includes composite bushes and different formulations for different functions.
Application: Freelander from 1998

together with
Fixings kit for Set 69 - Freelander Ref: ZZPOLYBUSHSET69FIX-
£84.92 Including VAT
The set of nuts, bolts and washers for fitting Polybush Set69 (Freelander 1998 on).
Lets you do a 'complete' job when fitting your new Polybush set. Rather than using tired and worn fixings, this set compliments the Polybushes with exact fit new fixings to give you complete peace of mind.

This is confusing (for me).
I won't be there for about a week (from tomorrow morning) and might not be able to answer your posts.

Have a nice week-end.

The above bush kits do not include the diff mount bushes, they are for replacement of the suspension bushes and fit all suspension units EXCEPT the diff mounts..

The item referred to in my last post is for the diff. mount poly bush set only.

Ooops, I had not seen your link .
OK I get it know. So First I'll have the car checked, then I'll order these bushes if they are proven to be the faulty parts.

Great forum here with helping people !
